About a year ago, Gojo Satoru met his unfortunate demise. To this day, most fans find this hard to accept. This makes sense, though. The most overpowered anime character of all time who almost died once did come back alive in Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
With just two chapters left before the series ends, and with all the events that recently transpired, fans are more adamant than ever about letting go of the idea that Gojo could still be alive. In this article, we’ll explore the fans’ theories that explain why Gojo could still return to the series.
How Did Gojo Die?
Let this be a memory refresher for anyone who doesn’t remember how Gojo died. During the huge clash between Gojo and Sukuna at the beginning of the Shinjuku showdown arc, there were several factors that put Gojo at a disadvantage against Sukuna.
Firstly, Sukuna possessed Megumi’s body, which allowed him to use Mahogara. This was a huge advantage that he had against Gojo. Besides this, the difference in nature and size of Sukuna’s domain: Malevolent Shrine also played a part. Since Sukuna’s domain had a larger radius, Gojo’s domain was weak against Sukuna’s domain as it could break Gojo’s domain from the outside.
In the end, Gojo lost due to all these disadvantages and died in a horrific scene where he got split into two. This scene has definitely been etched into everyone’s memory, as it was pretty traumatizing.
Yuuta and Higuruma’s Survival
Yuuta took a huge gamble when he possessed Gojo’s body. There was no guarantee that Yuuta could come back alive after his technique ran out. Even so, Yuuta managed to survive, all thanks to Rika and her timely action. She went ahead and healed Yuuta’s main body while he was in Gojo’s body.
We all thought Higuruma had died in his fight against Sukuna. However, the latest chapter revealed Higuruma to be alive with nothing more than a few injuries. His reasoning was that if Sukuna had been more serious about the fight, there was no way he would have survived.
The fact remains that Gojo’s body had been fully healed, and Yuuta’s possession had caused his body to spring back to life. Considering the fact that Higuruma and Yuuta are still alive, if Gojo’s soul is still out there, his coming back to life seems reasonable enough.
The Mysterious Clock in Chapter 269
The latest chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen have shown a particular interest in clocks. Chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen featured a clock that read time as 1:58. The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen had the same clock read the time as 2:21. On further inspection, we realized that chapter 221 is the chapter in which Gojo had made his grand return from prison realm.
If this isn’t one of the biggest hints that the author Gege is giving us, then what could this possibly be? This theory makes even more sense, considering the fact that there was no reason for the manga to feature clocks in the latest chapters.
Will Gojo Return?
The clock theory made by fans seems like a pretty solid reason for Gojo to return. With this in mind, the fact that no one has mentioned Gojo or his death in the latest chapter is pretty suspicious. The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen has seen a lot of the characters doing a small review of their battle with Sukuna. Despite this, not once had Gojo been mentioned during that discussion, even though he had contributed the most to that fight.
The clock reference and the fact that Gojo isn’t being mentioned in the manga right now may be the author’s hint to fans that Gojo could still come back. Yuuta has also completely healed up Gojo’s body, making conditions perfect for Gojo to come back alive.
It still has to be mentioned that there is no real confirmation of this theory. While it is quite likely that Gojo could come back alive, fans also have first-hand experience with Gege Akutami’s hate towards the characters in his story. Hence, it is the safest to assume that Gojo will not be coming back for the sake of not increasing any existent trauma.
When Will Chapter 270 Release?
Chapter 270 of Jujutsu Kaisen will be released on the 22nd of September. It can be read on official sources like MangaPlus (by Shueisha) and Shonen Jump.
