For the first time in 8 years, WWE is going to hold a Night of Champions event. As a part of WWE’s 10-year partnership in support of Saudi Vision 2030, the event will take place at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Now that the Match Card for the event has been announced, fans are curious to know whether they’ll see Cody Rhodes in the ring, especially after Brock Lesnar challenged him to a match on last night’s episode of Raw.
For all you eager fans, it has been confirmed that Cody Rhodes will perform at WWE Night of Champions 2023 in a singles match against Brock Lesnar. This will be their first official fight since Rhodes brutally defeated Lesnar at the 2023 Backlash event.
The Rhodes vs. Lesnar rivalry is currently one of the most talked-about topics of WWE, thus making this NoC match a highly anticipated one.
1. How the Rhodes-Lesnar Rivalry Started
The clash between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar started at the Raw event after WrestleMania 39, back in April 2023. Rhodes and Lesnar teamed up to fight Roman Reigns but it wasn’t too long before Lesnar betrayed Rhodes and delivered a vicious beating.
WWE then put Rhodes on a path of adversity for the sake of his storyline and scheduled a high-stakes match between Rhodes and Lesnar at Backlash 2023 in the first week of May.
Rhodes put up a tough fight at Backlash and even managed to escape Lesnar’s famous Kimura Lock. Although most fans expected Rhodes to lose that match, WWE decided to wrap up his storyline and give him a redemption arc by having him take down Lesnar in the end.
Evidently, this match became a set-up for a Rhodes vs. Lesnar rivalry.
In the latest episode of Raw, we saw a continuation of this conflict. Rhodes was up for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, Brock Lesnar cost him the title when he interfered in the first round triple threat match and attacked Rhodes.
Lesnar then challenged Rhodes to another match at Night of Champions, which Rhodes accepted.
2. Possible Outcomes of the NoC Match
With Cody Rhodes currently in the lead, his feud with Brock Lesnar could go one of two ways after this weekend’s Night of Champions match: either Rhodes wins and goes 2-0 up to end the feud, or Lesnar wins and draws the scores.
A win from Cody Rhodes could possibly put an end to the feud; not to mention, it would also fall in line with the redemption storyline that WWE has recently created for him. Rhodes winning by submission would make his victory all the more special and extreme.
Alternatively, if Brock Lesnar were to win, the scores would be tied. This would most likely mean that the rivalry will continue until either Lesnar or Rhodes defeats the other in a championship title match or any other high-profile match.
Either way, let’s hope WWE has learnt from the audience’s response to Backlash 2023 and that they’ll give us a show more worthwhile watching. Additionally, I’m sure the fans wouldn’t mind seeing a little blood in the fight for the second time.
You can catch Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar 2.0 at WWE Night of Champions this Saturday, on May 27, 2023.
