Arthur Shelby, like Tommy, has PTSD along with having problems with substance abuse. He has lost a lot because of this, including his wife Linda Shelby, who left because of his addiction and violent behavior. However, in Season 6, Tommy tells Arthur that he knows where Linda is.
Tommy talks about how he wrote to her and asked her if she believes in forgiveness as a true Christian. Her answer is yes. So Tommy promises Arthur that if he stays sober for ten days, he’ll write to Linda and bring her back.
Does this mean Linda is returning to Peaky Blinders?
Linda does not appear in Peaky Blinders S6 Ep 4. She is expected to appear in the latter half of S6. However, we don’t know how her arc would gain closure by the show’s end and if she’ll patch up with Arthur.
Here’s Why Linda May Appear in Peaky Blinders S6
Fans speculated that Linda might return after Kate Phillips’ presence on the sets of Peaky Blinders in Linda’s costume. Secondly, her S6 credits are listed on the IMDB page for Episodes 4, 5 and 6.
The hole in this speculation is that Linda did not appear in Ep 4 as credited on IMDB, which means she may or may not appear in either of the two remaining episodes. We also have to remember that due to Helen McCrory’s passing, the scripts had to be re-written which means that Philips on set could’ve been an older version of the show.
Now in Episode 3, Arthur has an encounter with Hayden Stagg, a man who has learnt how to overcome his drug addiction, stay sober and healthy. This could be an indication that Arthur may try to get his life together, even if his problems are not totally “curable.”
Since Linda left because of Arthur’s addictions, it makes sense for her to come back if he starts making earnest efforts to deal with his demons.
Whatever happens to Linda next remains to be unknown at this moment. So all we can do is wait for Episodes 5 and 6 to find out how things unfold for her.
Why did Linda leave Arthur?
For those of you who don’t remember, Linda was a Christian who married Arthur. However, their marriage never lasted long enough due to Arthur’s issues. His PTSD led to him consuming drugs, alcohol, opium, and essentially any toxic substance he could get his hands on.
As a result of all this, his paranoia was at an all-time high in season 5. Linda had started getting closer to her Christian group, where she met Frederick. Although nothing happened between them, Arthur thought she was sleeping with him and decided to beat him up.
Linda was disgusted with this behavior and almost shot Arthur. However, before she could, Polly shot her in the shoulder. The Shelby family then treated her wounds, and she decided to leave the family.
