How Space Force Season 2 with Lesser Episodes is Better Than Season 1

Space Force season 2 was released with 3 lesser episodes than the previous one, but somehow I felt it was just perfect.

Steve Carell and the entire team have come back with a much more refined and funny season, and maybe in some ways, the cutdown of episodes has helped the show.

Space Force season 1 was released back in 2020, and it’s been a long time since then. For those who have forgotten, the show wasn’t received well despite all the buzz it generated, and people called it slow, lengthy, bland, and so much more.

Clearly, fans’ disappointment was taken as feedback, and the creators came back with a much better season 2.

If you’re wondering whether or not to catch season 2, I’ve got an answer for you. However, more importantly, I’ll also be dissecting how having lesser episodes in season 2 has helped elevate the show’s content.

The writers cut down the number of episodes in Space Force season 2, and this paved the way for a much tighter plot, narrative, and screenplay.

After season 1, people were unsure if there would be a season 2 of Space Force. However, after much deliberation, a season 2 was announced, but there were going to be a few changes.

Behind the scenes, the budgets were cut down. This meant that the shooting studios were shifted from Hollywood to Vancouver, and the number of episodes was reduced to 7 in season 2 from 10 in season 1.

Besides this, Dr. Jimmy O Yang, who plays Dr. Chan in the show, joined the writing team, and Norm Hiscock from Brooklyn 99 joined as the co-showrunner.

It is safe to say that all these efforts have come to fruition. This is because season 2, right from the first scene, feels like a breath of fresh air.

Although the comedic tropes used are similar to many other shows, it still feels good to watch them in play because the writers and the actors have sold it that well.

In season 1, one of the main problems I found was that the premises seemed quirky and absurd, but the screenplay and dialogues were leaning towards drama.

As a result, the season seemed pretty bland and, in some ways, confused as to what it really wants to be.

With season 2, the show is sure of what it wants to be. The dialogues and premises go hand-in-hand in terms of tonality and overall make up for an entertaining watch.

Furthermore, the screenplay seems crisper since the number of episodes is lesser. There is less room for unnecessary fillers, and that way, the show doesn’t seem like a drag.

Overall, Space Force season 2 having lesser episodes has worked in its benefits and it’d be interesting to see how the creators can top this if there’s a season 3. So all we have to do is wait and find out.
