The first two episodes of WandaVision premiered today on Disney+ Hotstar, and fans are left with so many more questions than answers.
There were so many references to the Marvel Universe in the sitcom fit episodes that some of them must have been missed by the watchers.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
In Episode 2, Wanda finds a surprisingly colored, toy Helicopter in her garden. The toy is colored red and yellow, which sticks out like a sore thumb in the monochrome world around Wanda.
In this article, I will discuss the mysterious (and colored, as a contrast to Wanda’s greyscale world) Helicopter that landed onto Wanda’s garden in episode 2. I will talk about where it might’ve come from and why.
I will also discuss other instance(s) that is(are) connected to the little red toy helicopter. So sit tight and relax as you read through.
Before I get deeper into the helicopter mystery, let’s talk about the episodes in general.
Episode 1 seems to be set in the era of The Dick Van Dyke Show. The opening credits and overall feel of the episode are quite similar to the Van Dyke show. The episode looks like a proper sitcom accompanied by a laughing track.
While they try to please and seem as normal as possible to Mr. and Mrs. Hart, Vision’s boss and his wife, something weird, almost glitchy happens.
While Mr. Hart asks Wanda and Vision about where they have come from and why, he suddenly starts to choke on his toast, while Mrs. Hart keeps telling him to “stop it” like a broken recorder.
Wanda appears bothered and asks Vision to help Mr. Hart, who saves the choking man, and Mrs. Hart finally stops her record.
What seems even more strange that Mr. Hart gets up from the floor and behaves as if he wasn’t just dying of suffocation, and both the boss-husband and wife bid their farewell, seeming oddly happy about the evening.
Episode 2 seems to be set in the time of the sitcom Bewitched. The episode starts with Wanda and Vision sleeping in the night in the 1960s, when suddenly something bangs the windows, scaring them.
Later they find it out to be a tree branch that kept hitting the window. They laugh it out and go back to *ahem* sleep *ahem*
Anyway, The next day when Wanda is alone in the house, she hears the sound again. She decides to investigate what the sound was and goes out to their front yard.
Just then, Wanda finds a helicopter in the shrubs of her garden, which wouldn’t have been note worthy if the fact that it was colored (in bright red with a little bit of yellow, in Wanda’s monochrome world) didn’t stick out so much. It was a detail that is impossible to miss.
The mysterious yet colored toy helicopter seemed to be sporting the S.W.O.R.D logo (a sword piercing a circle). From what we know of S.W.O.R D from the comics, it is an organization that works in space, defending the Earth from external harm and attack.
But that wasn’t the first time that a helicopter was linked with the show. Let’s look back to the trailer released for the nine-part series.
In the trailer, a very-real looking helicopter (most likely sporting the S.W.O.R.D logo too) flying towards a large red orb (which is speculated to be the reality Wanda had created for herself).
Connecting the dots, it might not be a stretch to say that as the real helicopter was trying to approach the red orb (where Wanda is most likely living with Vision), it shrunk in its size.
The real Helicopter might have become toy-like and landed in Wanda’s garden. That Helicopter might have been trying to contact Wanda (which we will come back to later).
Further in the episode, when Wanda is “helping” Dottie clean up after a meeting, the glitch effect that we saw in episode 1 happened again. The glass Dottie was holding explodes in her hand, making her bleed.
Again, the detail might not have been as significant had the blood not appeared colored (red, of course), which changes how the detail is received. The fact that Wanda (and us) sees more and more of red might be a reference to her powers, which manifest into red color (getting her the name, Scarlet Witch).
Then, a radio suddenly starts glitching, and sounds of someone trying to reach Wanda are heard. (that must be S.W.O.R.D reaching her out). As to why the S.W.O.R.D is trying to reach Wanda out, it is uncertain as of yet.
However, at the end of the episode, we are teased with the sight of a terrifying person (who I’m guessing is the villain), clad in some kind of suit, crawl out of the drainage hole.
Looks like the show is starting to get darker just by a little. We would have to wait till Jan 22, 2021, to know what happens next.
Until then, stay tuned.
