Why Is Daniel Radcliffe Not The New Wolverine? Has Wolverine Already Been Cast?

While we’re all busy searching for the new face of Wolverine in every eligible actor, Daniel Radcliffe has flat-out denied the possibility of him being one of the candidates.

Let me rewind a little bit for context, yeah?

Previously in an interview, Radcliffe joked about him being Wolverine if, well, Wolverine had been shrunk in hot wash (his words, not mine). But while Dan was making a good-hearted joke, we folks blew the idea way out of proportion.

Soon enough, heated debates raged online about Dan as Wolverine in the MCU’s X-Men.

And as fun as that was, Dan decided to clear the air around the rumors. In an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Dan confirmed that he would not be playing Wolverine and that the comment had been an obvious joke.

There was that whole thing where I made, what I thought was, an obvious joke … and then people thought that that was serious. I got onto set on my next job in Australia, and people were like, ‘So you’re playing Wolverine? That’s awesome man!’ and I was like, ‘No, no, no, that was a joke.’

Dan also explained why he wouldn’t want to take on the role of Wolverine, despite having been a fan of the character forever.

1. Why Is Daniel Radcliffe Not The New Wolverine?

Daniel confirmed that he wouldn’t want to play Wolverine since he doesn’t want the movie to be remade at all, let alone be in it. He also keeps reminding everyone that neither has he been cast as Wolverine nor is he likely to audition for the role.

Most of the films that I love I don’t think I would want to see remade, and I certainly don’t think that I would want to be in the remakes of them.

I mean, it’s only natural for Daniel to be baffled at the thought of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine being replaced. It’s like saying you could replace Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther— you technically could. But don’t expect us to take it without shedding a few tears or throwing tantrums.

1.1 Is Charlie Hunnam The New Wolverine?

Charlie Hunnam is not the new Wolverine. Much Like Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Hardy, the talk of Charlie Hunnam playing Wolverine in a possible MCU debut is still a baseless rumor. As of now, we don’t have any news of the X-Men appearing in the MCU.

As cool as that fan edit looks, sadly, that’s all it is—a fan edit.

1.2 Is Tom Hardy The New Wolverine?

Despite having Hugh Jackman’s approval, Tom Hardy will not be replacing Hugh as Wolverine. Tom plays Eddie Brock in Sony and Marvel’s Venom, which already has a much-awaited sequel on the way, and it’s unlikely he’ll be cast for another role in Marvel to avoid confusion.

This honestly sucks because Tom would’ve been excellent as Wolverine.

But alas, he’s also the perfect Eddie Brock, so I can’t complain, can I?

2. Who Will Be The New Wolverine?

Kevin Feige has confirmed that Wolverine has not been cast yet. However, he admitted that he’s been thinking about the X-Men in MCU and that they’re not in the casting phase yet. After Hugh Jackman’s wild success, they’re likely going let some time pass before attempting a recast.

This is honestly a very smart move. Given the way we’re all attached to Jackman’s portrayal of this character, any new actor (despite how good they are) wouldn’t be able to give Logan justice.

For now, it looks like Phase 4 is already jam-packed (scheduled to run till 2022 and maybe even beyond). So it’s going to be a while before we get any mutants in the MCU.

3. About Wolverine

The Wolverine movie trilogy (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine & Logan) primarily star Hugh Jackman (Wolverine/Logan), Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, and Ian McKellen among others.
