Mairimashita! Iruma-kun has been one of the fan-favorite isekai manga. If you like the slice of life genre, you will surely love Mairimashita. I have come to love all the characters.
We all love Opera and have come to love Kalego sensei’s tsundere personality as well. If you are still not over fluffy Kalego, something has made the moe factor increase even more!
When the high and mighty Kalego was terrified of Opera, it shocked everyone. Fans have become curious ever since.
It appears upcoming chapters will be following Kalego’s life at Babylus. What can be the reason for our cute fluffy birdie to be afraid of the capable butler Opera?
Rather than being afraid, Kalego doesn’t want to deal with Opera. Opera is the only one who knows Kalego’s secrets and vulnerabilities; of course, she uses it to tease Kalego.
However, Kalego shudders at the very thought of Opera. Let’s see some possible reasons why Kalego is scared of Opera.
1. Why is Kalego Afraid of Opera?
I. Opera is a Bully
Opera was unpredictable, but who would have thought the usually calm Opera has a different side to her when it comes to Naberius Kalego.
She bullied Kalego in his school days, which scarred him for life. Opera treated Kalego as an errand boy, forcing him to carry bags and bring food.
Her bullying was not limited to their school days; she still enjoys messing around with Kalego. As soon as Kalego enters Iruma’s home, he holds him as a shield since he doesn’t want to see Opera. Their dynamic is downright hilarious.
Opera’s eyes were sparkling with a mischievous glint when she saw Kalego. Opera sure loves to tease Kalego to her heart’s content.
In contrast, Kalego cringes at the very thought of remembering their school days. We have also seen Kalego turning ice cold and immediately escaping from Opera’s sight.
II. Opera is a Cat
After Iruma and Kalego’s familiar contract, he shifts into a cute fluffy bird. As you all know, Opera is a cat demon. It has become a prey-predator thing now.
In the start, the fear must have been due to the type of relationship they shared. Now the fear has become instinctive.
Kalego’s instincts supplemented his already existing fear, and now Kalego remains at a disadvantageous position. Knowing Opera, she won’t leave any opportunity to mess with Kalego. In the manga, we have seen Opera insisting Iruma to buy a collar for his bird familiar.
2. Why Couldn’t Kalego Oppose Opera?
I. Senpai-Kouhai relationship
Kalego must have followed Opera’s every whim since Opera is his senpai. The Senpai-Kouhai relationship has a significant meaning in Japanese culture. Most of the Senpai are respected and stand at the top of the hierarchy.
This time ‘Notice Me Senpai!’ was a big pitfall. Just like the fandom, Opera loves to see Kalego’s irritated face as well. Opera states that she has fond memories of each other, ironically while scaring him with her claws.
Whether Kalego didn’t resist Opera’s demands out of respect or terror would only be revealed once we get his side story.
3. The Difference in Their Ranks
In the Mairimashita universe, ranks or levels decide the demon’s social standing. If the rank is on the higher level, other demons don’t torment them.
Even though Opera’s rank remains a mystery, it’s obvious she is overpowered. At some point, she must have been higher than Kalego’s level.
Weaker demons are at higher demon’s disposal. Something similar must have happened with Opera and Kalego, which makes him avoid Opera at all costs.
Whatever the reason is for Kalego’s fear, it was not a one-day thing. Opera mentions that she is Kalego’s master. Does that mean he was not only Opera’s errand boy but her slave? It makes sense why she wants a collar on him.
