Starlight Quits Vought and Becomes Annie January

Herogasm was the most eventful episode of this season of The Boys. One of the most significant moments was when Starlight went on her IG live telling what happened at Herogasm and quitting Vought. She said she wasn’t Starlight anymore, and her name was now Annie January.

So, why did she quit Vought? What is she going to do next?

Starlight quit Vought because of Homelander’s insanity and the corruption within the company. She knew the entire system was rigged, and nobody would hold the superheroes accountable. Hence she didn’t want to be a part of any of it.

Starlight will likely join MM, aka Marvin, in his quest to get Soldier Boy. Right now, the gang is divided into three teams. Hughie and Butcher are going after Homelander with Soldier Boy at their side.

Starlight and M.M will be going after Soldier Boy because he’s the reason behind the death of M.M’s grandfather and his childhood trauma. However, Starlight might use her popularity on social media to bring to light a bigger cause, which is holding supes accountable for their actions.

The third team is Kimiko and Frenchie, who have their own enemies to deal with. In Episode 6, Nina kidnapped the two and would’ve killed them if not for Kimiko. While Nina’s henchmen suffered a brutal death, she escaped.

If Nina returns, the Frenchie, his Mon Coeur, would have to battle it out. If not, they’d probably get a fresh start elsewhere or join either of the above two teams. They will likely join Marvin and Starlight because Kimiko’s not a big fan of Butcher.

If we look at Starlight specifically and her arc across seasons, it is the most likely progression. She was the best superhero in her county and, from there, rose to prominence. When she entered The Seven, she became aware of how dirty and nasty Vought and the entire supe business really is.

Over the last season and even the current one, she’s been playing this quite cautiously for herself and Hughie. As a result, she’s had to make many changes to her perspective. Everyone she’s met has told her that she can’t bring the change she wants to until she plays dirty.

In Episode 6, even Victoria Neuman, aka Nadia, said the same to her. But this time, Starlight had had enough of this. She was tired and just wanted to get away from all of it. Soldier Boy’s massacre at Herogasm was just the last thread, and she decided to quit everything.

However, there are a couple of questions that still remain unanswered. Now that Starlight’s Annie January, will she get rid of her suit as well? After all, she is an enhanced human being who can’t hide her abilities and identity. The final two episodes will most likely answer these questions.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
