Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane are two significant members of the modern-day Assassin Order who provide technical and communication support to the on-field assassins. They worked alongside Desmond Miles in Assassin’s Creed I, II, and Brotherhood to locate the Apple of Eden.
Surprisingly, after the death of Desmond in AC III, Rebecca and Shaun again appeared in AC Black Flag. This time, we saw Shaun working as a barista at Abstergo while Rebecca was a courier lady, but what was their primary objective before this elaborate facade?
Shaun and Rebecca were working undercover at the Abstergo Industries to gather intel on Desmond Miles’ death, his body, and Abstergo’s future plans of using his genetic information.
In this secret mission, they were assisted by the research analyst (the modern-day protagonist of Black Flag) and John Standish, the sage. While John helped the analyst hack into Abstergo’s computers and steal the data, Shaun acted as a communication facilitator between the analyst and Rebecca by taking the role of lobby’s barista. Rebecca, as a courier, carried the intel outside Abstergo’s premises.
Shaun and Rebecca continued their mission for a small period after John was killed by Abstergo while trying to conjure ISU Juno into the analyst’s body. But soon, they decided to quit, so they could analyze all the gathered data and plan their next move against the Templars.
After their appearance in Black Flag, Shaun and Rebecca mostly vanished from the future Assassin’s Creed games, that is, until Syndicate in 2015.
What Shaun and Rebecca are up to in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate?
In Syndicate, Shaun and Rebecca are tasked by the Bishop to infiltrate Isabelle Ardant’s office and retrieve any information Abstergo has on Pieces of Eden.
Even though the mission was limited to extracting information, Shaun and Rebecca disregarded the orders and decided to wait for Isabelle’s return to attack her. It was a terrible idea as they ended up being ambushed by two Sigma Team agents, whom they narrowly escaped.
Shaun and Rebecca Finding the Shroud of Eden
Through their mission, Rebecca and Shaun discovered that a Piece of Eden is located in London, which the Bishop confirmed as the Shroud of Eden. Later in the game, it was revealed that the Shroud is beneath the famous Buckingham Palace.
As Rebecca, Shaun, and Galina closed in on Shroud’s location, they saw that Isabelle and the Sigma Team agents already had their hands on the Shroud. A fight ensued in which Shaun shocked Isabelle using a Shock Blade, but Rebecca took a bullet while protecting Shaun. Taking advantage of the chaos, a Sigma Team agent fled with the Shroud.
Galina then eliminated the Templar reinforcements, and Shaun managed to escape with injured Rebecca. Fortunately, Rebecca lived and soon returned to active duty as an assassin agent.
They both again disappeared for the next two AC titles: Origins and Odyssey, as Layla Hassan took over the role of the new modern-day protagonist.
Are Rebecca and Shaun married in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Rebecca and Shaun married before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and now they are assisting Layla Hassan under the orders of William Miles to prevent an Earth-threatening catastrophe.
The last we see of them is when Basim approaches the duo in the modern-day and asks them to set up a face-to-face meeting with William Miles, the current mentor of the Assassin Order.
