So far, reviews for 3 Body Problems have mainly been positive; the movie sits at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I. Benedict Wong as Da Shi
In The 3 Body Problem, Wong portrays Da Shi, a mysterious and straightforward detective who investigates the deaths within the scientific community.
As a former intelligence officer, Da Shi is determined, focused, and driven to uncover those responsible for humanity’s existential threat. He is an enigmatic, slightly eccentric character who utilizes an unconventional investigative approach to carry out his work.
Thanks to his role as Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wong has become a well-known actor. His other notable works include The Martian, Raya and the Last Dragon, Gemini Man, and the Black Mirror episode “Hated in the Nation.”
II. Jess Hong as Jin Cheng
Jin Cheng is an integral part of the group of scientists called the “Oxford Five.” She is brilliant, driven, and passionate about learning more about the universe.
Jin’s curiosity, excitement, and focus on goals make her essential to the team. However, those same traits also cause her and the group all sorts of difficulties.
Jess Hong was recognized for her roles in Hollywood blockbusters, such as Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong.
III. Eiza González as Augustine “Auggie” Salazar
Auggie is a talented nanotech expert in the renowned “Oxford Five” group. As an inventor, she is competent, intelligent, and entirely dedicated to addressing humanity’s pressing issues in the present rather than hypothetical future challenges.
However, Auggie’s deep passion for her work can also make her quite emotional at times. This sometimes leads her to make hasty decisions based on fear rather than careful analysis.
IV. Jovan Adepo as Saul Durand
Jovan Adepo is a British American actor originally from Oxfordshire, England.
Another member of the “Oxford Five,” Saul is a research physicist. Unlike his peers, Saul struggles to stay focused and isn’t as driven as those around him. Nevertheless, he is still brilliant and a valuable asset to the group. He and Auggie share a close friendship.
On the big screen, he starred in the 2017 horror Mother! and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, while on the small screen, he has had roles in Sorry for Your Loss, Jack Ryan, and Watchmen.
V. John Bradley as Jack Rooney
Jack Rooney is part of the “Oxford Five” group but differs from the others. He doesn’t take himself or life too seriously.
Jack can be brash, arrogant, and outspoken, but he’s a good person deep down. In The Three-Body Problem, he often provides comic relief.
John Bradley is best known for playing the role of Samwell Tarly in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones.
VI. Alex Sharp as Will Downing
The final member of the “Oxford Five” is Will, a secondary school physics teacher. He is more reserved and quieter than the other members of the group, preferring to keep to himself. However, Will plays an integral part in the show’s story.
Since then, Sharp has embarked on a career in film and TV. In 2019, he starred in the comedy The Hustle before playing Rennie Davis in The Trial of the Chicago 7 the following year.
VII. Rosalind Chao as Ye Wenjie
Ye Wenjie is a crucial character in the 3 Body Problem. As an astrophysicist, her experiences set the stage for the entire story. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, Ye lost everything.
Feeling upset and alone, her actions have lasting consequences that are felt years later. Her life is the driving force behind the main narrative arc.
She first rose to fame as Soon-Lee Klinger, Maxwell Klinger’s wife, on M*A*S*H and one of its subsequent spin-offs, AfterMASH.
VIII. Liam Cunningham as Wade
Cunningham’s Wade is a suit who serves as the man in charge of the world’s most elite intelligence operation.
He is charming, enigmatic, and crafty, and ultimately, he holds much power. He’s the man tasked with protecting the world from its biggest threat.
Before joining the show, Cunningham had made several film appearances, such as in the 2003 comedy The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse, the action-adventure sequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and the 2010 fantasy remake Clash of the Titans.
IX. Jonathan Pryce as Mike Evans
A shadowy figure, Mike Evans is a wealthy oil tycoon with much power. In a previous life, he was a vocal environmentalist. Mike’s motives aren’t always clear, but he is supported by influential figures.
Some of his best-known roles include the villainous Elliot Carver in the 1997 James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, Governor Swann in three Pirates of the Caribbean films, and Pope Francis in Netflix’s The Two Popes.

Marlo Kelly as Tatiana: Tatiana is known for making outside doctors feel welcome. She has been a part of Mike’s organization her whole life. Kelly has previously acted in Dare Me and Joe vs. Carole.
Sea Shimooka as Sophon: Sophon is an avatar in the VR game. Shimooka is known for her work on the shows Arrow and MacGyver.
Saamer Usmani as Raj Varma: Raj is Jin’s boyfriend, but their relationship negatively impacts his mission. Raj is very committed to his job as a naval officer and comes from a military family. Usmani has been seen in Inventing Anna, What/If, and Succession.
Eve Ridley as Follower: Jin encounters Follower, a 9-year-old, in the VR game. Ridley is a newcomer, making 3 Body Problem her first significant role.

3 Body Problem is an American science fiction television series created by David Benioff, D. B. Weiss and Alexander Woo, based on the Chinese novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. It is the second live-action adaptation after the 2023 Chinese television series. It premiered on Netflix on March 21, 2024.
Ye Wenjie is an astrophysicist who saw her father brutally murdered during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Later, she was conscripted by the military because of her scientific background and sent to a secret radar base in a remote region. Her fateful decision at the base echoes across space and time to a group of scientists in the present day, forcing them to face humanity’s greatest threat.
