Soldier Boy is out for blood to find out who gave him up to the Russians. So far, he’s killed Crimson Countess and the TNT Twins, but we know he won’t stop there. So, who exactly is his next target on the hit list?
Black Noir will most likely be Soldier Boy’s next target after his killing of Mindstorm in episode 7. Black Noir and his teammates had enough reason to assist in Soldier Boy’s kidnapping, which makes them responsible and probable of becoming his next target.
Soldier Boy’s next target after Crimson Countess and TNT Twins was Mindstorm. In season 3 episode 7, Soldier Boy beat Mindstorm to death. After Mindstorm, he may be coming after Black Noir unless someone stops him from killing more supes.
The legendary supe was thought to be dead, and we later found out that he’s alive and in Russia. Soldier Boy was on a quest to find out who was behind his kidnapping. He discovered that his own people betrayed him.
In Russia, the scientists have been experimenting on him and gave him new powers, such as the energy blast from his chest. Moreover, the old supe hadn’t aged much.
When Soldier Boy first went to Crimson Countess’ place, he asked her how much money they gave her, and she said they didn’t give her any money. He then confronted the TNT Twins, who put it all on Black Noir.
However, Soldier Boy didn’t believe this because, according to him, Noir wouldn’t make a move without Vought’s say-so. But this could have been a hint. The phrase ‘Vought’s say-so’ could have been a clue for the audience.
Since the beginning of this season, we have been seeing a constant battle between Stan Edgar and Homelander for Vought’s control. While Stan imagined Vought as a pharmaceutical defense company, the all-American superhero wanted it to be a ‘pure’ and ‘clean’ supe company.
There was another hint dropped to us in episode 6. When Soldier Boy asks Butcher, who is Homelander, he replies, ‘He’s the new you.’ This means Stan Edgar could have had a problem with Soldier Boy back then, and Nicaragua was a way to eliminate this supe. This was confirmed in episode 7.
However, it doesn’t explain Stan’s defection to the Russians. Could there be something we are missing? Is Stan indeed playing from all sides on an international level? I guess the answers wait for us in the final episode of The Boys season 3.
In episode 7, Soldier Boy leads Hughie and Billy into the woods. He warns them not to make eye contact with Mindstorm but Billy ends up doing it, getting stuck in an endless nightmare. When Hughie begs Soldier Boy to help him out, he instead chooses to focus more on killing Mindstorm.
At the end, Hughie does end up convincing Mindstorm to wake up Billy from his nightmare. But this happy moment is quite short lived, considering Soldier Boy reaches on time and beats Mindstorm to death.
Episode 7 also explains why Black Noir decided to betray his own leader. In a walk down memory lane, he gets reminded of all the traumatic incidents he had to face because of Soldier Boy.
One particular incident is significant. An imaginary friend of Black Noir reminded him that once a producer wanted Black Noir for a film called Beverly Hills Cop. But Soldier Boy sabotaged his chance by saying horrible things about him to Don Simpson. This led Black Noir to lose the role of Alex Foley.
Though Black Noir tried to bring down Soldier Boy, it was not something he could do alone, so they needed to team up. During the 1984 mission in Nicaragua, Stan Edgar told Black Noir that Vought wants to replace Soldier Boy.
They are working on someone better and stronger who would represent the true American hero and be the perfect replacement to Soldier Boy. It is possible that Black Noir knew about the effect of the Russian drug, Novichak on Soldier boy.
Novichak could easily make Soldier Boy fall asleep. Black Noir must have revealed this to the Russians, who then sedated the supe and kidnapped him. Since Soldier Boy is hell bent on punishing those who were behind his kidnapping by the Russians, naturally Black Noir should be his next target.
Besides, the flashbacks also revealed that Soldier Boy was responsible for Black Noir’s face getting destroyed, after which he had to wear a mask to cover his face for years. So, Black Noir had enough reason to harm Soldier Boy.
All of this further makes it more probable for Black Noir to be Soldier Boy’s next target after Mindstorm in episode 7. The final episode of The Boys will give us more clarity on this.
About The Boys
The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
