Rick got involved with the CRM and started the events in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, there was another main character from the show who almost ended up joining this military group 2 seasons before Rick showed up.
Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, left the show in season 9, right after Rick escaped death and was handed over to the CRM. Jadis found Rick all banged up, and just as a CRM chopper was flying in, she managed to get them both into the Civic Republic.
However, Jadis told a little white lie about Rick being a B because she knew the CRM had the habit of killing As. She wanted to make sure Rick had a chance to fight to make it through.
Rick getting caught up with the CRM set the stage for The Ones Who Live. It made more sense as it meant Danai Gurira could return as Michonne. However, things would have been different if Jadis had handed over someone else to the CRM instead of Rick.
In season 7, Jadis almost sent Gabriel to the CRM. If she had gone through with that, it could’ve changed the plans of the spinoff with Rick and Michonne or even messed with The Walking Dead’s ending. In season 9, Jadis was looking to find someone to barter with so she could get into the CRM’s good books.
She was close to trading Gabriel, although he was not the strongest link in Rick’s crew. She was willing to give up Gabriel in exchange for some much-needed supplies. Jadis had already captured Gabriel in season 7, but Rick came just in time to stop him from being traded.
In season 7, episode 10, Rick and the gang hit up the Junkyard to talk about getting Gabriel back. If Rick hadn’t arrived, Jadis might’ve handed Gabriel over to the CRM. She and her group were already in cahoots with them.
When Jadis first thought about sending Gabriel to the CRM, he would be labeled a B. If the trade had gone through, he would’ve become a consignee. The Ones Who Live sheds some light on what the CRM’s A and B labels mean.
The A people are the fearless leaders ready to die for their cause, while Bs are just regular people trying to make it through. As Gabriel was timid, he would’ve been tagged as a B. However, it would’ve worked out for him with the CRM.
The CRM eliminates As because they’re seen as potential troublemakers, but Bs get to be consignees. Gabriel would’ve had a decent life with the CRM at that point. When Jadis got her hands on Gabriel again in season 9, she could not hand him over as Gabriel had come a long way since then.
