A Difficult Choice– Halfdan or Faravid? Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Guide

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you will have to make many difficult choices. One such choice is picking either Faravid or Halfdan. You might not realise the weight of your choice but it will decide how Eivor’s war fares against the mighty King Alfred.

A wise decision can guarantee Eivor’s alliance with the Eurviscire clan while a hasty one might lead to losing some possible backing in battles of the near future.

In the Royal Hall of Jorvik as you are trying to form an alliance with the Eurviscire troop, once you encounter Halfdan, a mission titled “Of Blood and Bonds” will be triggered. It is in this very mission where you will be faced with the question.

A cut scene will start the celebrations at the hall. Halfdan will raise a toast to his new alliance with Eivor and upon sipping his drink, he will cough and drop his cup. Moira will investigate the cup and find that it is made out of lead. The same lead that once drove the Romans mad with every sip of their drinks.

Halfdan will immediately accuse Faravid of poisoning him and the two will argue, leaving Eivor to choose between the two.

1. The Two Choices

Before jumping to conclusion, let’s briefly explain the two options at hand so you can make a definitive decision.

I. Choice 1: You are insane, Halfdan

If you choose to stand beside Faravid, Halfdan gets extremely mad and banishes Faravid from his lands. You also lose a possible alliance with Halfdan by siding with Faravid.

Although, it can also be noted that while you are escorting Faravid out of the halls and bidding farewell, he does not answer your question of whether he was the actual perpetrator behind the lead poisoning cup.

It can be assumed that he in fact was a traitor and chose to keep his silence.

This can make you question whether you were right about your decision.

II. Choice 2: Stand down or fight me, Faravid

Choosing to side with Halfdan, Eivor will accuse Faravid of treason and defeat him in the fight. In rage of getting betrayed, Halfdan slams a hammer on Faravid’s head, killing him in the process.

After Faravid’s death, Halfdan gifts you a symbol of friendship which confirms Eivor’s strong alliance with Eurviscire and Halfdan’s clan.

Tips

  • Try to attack Faravid on his head or the right foot to stun him.
  •  Once there’s an opening, go for a combo attack to deal significant damage to your foe.

But, you must be racking your brains thinking about the best option to choose between the two.

2. Who Should I Choose Between Halfdan Or Faravid?

You should choose the “Stand down or fight me, Faravid” option and side with Halfdan. Halfdan will kill Faravid for committing treason and gift Eivor a symbol of peace, strengthening the bond of their alliance.

This is the right option to choose as you will not only gain a strong alliance with Eurviscire, but you can also stop worrying about the Eurviscire clan and go search for other allies.

Also, Faravid does not confirm or deny the fact about the lead poisoning which can presumably be taken as a sign that he in fact did intend to poison Halfdan and truly committed treason. You wouldn’t want to side with someone like that, would you?

While making the choice, you need to remember what you came for– an alliance. Anything that has the potential to hamper with is a path you should explore.

So, have you made up your mind yet?
