The finale of season one showed us Kaiman’s partner, Nikaido, getting stabbed by a mysterious assailant. Who exactly was this man? Does the Devil know about his identity?
For those of you who can’t wait any longer, I have explained everything below. Beware, SPOILERS ahead!
1. Quick Answer
After the fight against Nikaido, Kaiman’s head started aching, and his former personality, Kai, took over. During this time, Kai’s hatred towards Magic-Users, coupled with his murderous tendencies, led him to stab Nikaido, who had revealed herself to be one since birth.
However, it is believed that in the brief moment before he stabbed her, Kaiman subconsciously managed to expel her contract.
2. Who Stabbed Nikaido In Dorohedoro?
In the season one finale, after the confrontation between Kaiman and Nikaido, the two separated inside the church, where a mysterious assailant then stabbed the latter.
[SPOILERS from the manga ahead so proceed with caution]
Before being cursed and losing his memories, Kaiman was initially a human called Ai Coleman, who had two split personalities. The dominant personality was called Kai, who was the evil founder of Cross-Eyes.
After the fight against Nikaido, Kaiman’s head started aching, and his former personality, Kai, took over. During this time, he expressed his murderous tendencies by assaulting her.
Since Kai is actually Kaiman himself, it can be said that he was the one who stabbed Nikaido.
3. Why Did He Stab Nikaido?
After fighting and separating from Nikaido, Kaiman started to blank out due to an intense headache. At this time, his former persona called Kai took over.
Before losing his memories, Kaiman was Kai (Ai Coleman’s dominant personality), who was the leader of the Cross-Eyes and accumulated powers by hunting sorcerers.
After gaining control, the Cross-Eye leader’s hatred towards Magic-Users, coupled with his murderous tendencies, led him to stab Nikaido, who had revealed herself to be one since birth.
4. Does The Devil Know About The Stabber’s Identity?
The devils are creatures that don’t operate under human’s mental schemes and emotions. However, some Devils, such as Asu, retain their human emotions.
The Devil present in the Church at that time was Asu, who came to Nikaido’s aid and helped her remove the contract. From his subtle actions and hints in the manga, it is believed that he does know or at least has a good enough idea about the identity of Nikaido’s stabber.
However, after Nikaido comes to Kaiman’s defense, he does not push the issue any further.
5. How Did Nikaido Become Contract-Free?
After Kaiman’s former personality took control for a brief moment, it expressed itself by stabbing Nikaido. It turned out that the wound was suspiciously nonlethal, and cut in a way that expelled her contract with En that was embedded deep in her body.
It is believed that in the brief moment before Kai stabbed Nikaido, Kaiman managed to subconsciously expel her contract with the help of the Cross-Eye leader’s medical expertise and intimate knowledge of sorcerer anatomy.
6. Will Nikaido’s Contract Come Into Effect Again?
After the Devil Asu arrives, saves Nikaido, and removes her contract, the latter is freed from En’s control.
However, Asu explains that it is only a temporary measure. The moment she makes eye contact with En, the contract in her body will regenerate, and come into effect once again.
