Fire Force follows the story of Shinra KusaKabe, who fights the Infernals to find the Killer of his Mother with his Pyrokinetic powers.
Later in the anime, the enigmatic Evangelist emerges as the main antagonist. Her goal being merging Adolla and Earth to create a second sun, destroying humanity and life as we know it.
The Evangelist has since been the driving force behind many events in the Fire Force.
But where does she come from, what are her powers, and what is her goal? In this article, I will answer all these questions and more.
The evangelist is an inhuman being from the realm of Adolla. The Evangelist is a materialization of all human’s collective desire and despair. She is also the DoppleGanger of Shinra’s Mother, Mari Kusakabe.
What Are Dopplegangers?
Doppelgangers are one of the many beings from Adolla. Every person on the planet has a doppelganger. They intrude and merge with their human counterparts, resulting in spontaneous human combustion.
So, it was no wonder that when the Evangelist met Mari, Mari went under spontaneous human combustion and turned into an Infernal, burning their whole house.
What are Her Powers?
The Evangelist is a being with superhuman strength who has performed feats, including traversing the Tear in Space, triggering nationwide earthquakes, and blinding those who gaze directly at her with intense pain as if they were staring at the sun itself.
What is the Grace of the Evangelist?
The Evangelist is capable of several inhuman feats. But one of her most fascinating abilities addressed on the show is Grace.
It is shown that those who possess Adolla Link can forge a connection with The Evangelist and can be bestowed with what is termed “Grace.”
Under Grace, the pyrokinetic users (Third-Generation) can tap into higher powers termed Fourth Generation abilities.
If a user forms an Adolla Link connection with anyone under Grace, they can also access the Fourth-Generation ability by proxy. However, The Evangelist can take back Grace if she wishes to.
Where is she from – The OtherWorld?
The story establishes that the Evangelist hails from an alternate dimension called Adolla which is linked to Earth via the Tear in Space or Spatial Rift. The Spatial Rift is located on the Chinese Peninsula.
Through the visions from the Adolla Link, Adolla is painted as an endless landscape of a blackened world and black flames with burning human bodies scattered around (sometimes not).
The Evangelist and the Bugs come from Adolla.
It is revealed that Spontaneous Human Combustion takes place when a Doppelganger encroaches on a human. Later on, it is revealed that Adolla is the collective consciousness of humanity.
The Evangelist uses humans’ thoughts and fears regarding death to power Adolla. She is set on using the Eight Pillars to fully encroach Adolla into Earth and transform it into a second sun where, as claimed by Giovanni and Rekka, only those with ignition abilities will survive.
Evangelist’s Goals
It was announced early into the series by Lieutenant Rekka that the primary goal of The Evangelist is to engulf the world in flames and turn it into a second sun.
Additionally, it is addressed that the Great Cataclysm Event that took place 250 years ago was merely a failed attempt by The Evangelist in pursuit of her goal.
The Evangelist requires eight pillars to enact the Great Cataclysm Event, such as the one 250 years ago. The Pillars are Adolla Burst users that form a particular section of society.
The failure of the previous Great Cataclysm Event was concluded as the number and strength of the Pillars used previously.
Therefore, it was understood that once all eight pillars came together with The Evangelist during the two centuries, it was possible to recreate the event.
Evangelists allowed human civilization to grow and awaited the emergence of more pyrokinetic. She facilitated this process by implanting young children with a Bug.
A Bug is an organism from Adolla that contains a spark of Adolla in them, and it instigates Spontaneous Human Combustion in the human. If incompatible, they turn to Infernals, but if compatible, they can become Second Generation or Third Generation pyrokinetic.
