Battling it out with your friends in the most fantastic Super Smash Bros game is tough. With more than 70 characters, making your pick can be very tough.
From Pikachu to Mario, Super Smash Bros Ultimate has it all. The biggest question anyone can ask for any fighting game, let alone SSBU, is who is the strongest. With a star-studded line-up of playable characters from over a dozen franchises, I have decided to list the top 7 best characters in the game.
So, let this epic showdown begin and, once and for all, decide the undisputable champions of Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
7 Palutena
Palutena is one of the original characters of the Super Smash Bros series. Palutena is an excellent parrier, and given the fact that SSBU focused on this mechanic early on, it made Palutena a no-brainer pick.
Palutena offers a neutral aerial attack that can be spammed easily. She is a well-rounded character with few flaws that can be exploited. Palutena is one of the most versatile characters in the game, which plays into her strength.
She is a good pick and quite capable against all types of characters, big or small.
6 Pikachu
Pikachu was one of the strongest picks in the original Super Smash Bros. This trend continues as Pikachu remains a formidable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Pikachu performs extraordinarily well when it comes to fighting off-stage. He can perform a mighty spike move and an improved version of his quick attack, which almost guarantees that he returns to the stage from the bottom of the screen. The attack speed of Pikachu is also excellent, making it easier to perform combos.
5 Pichu
Pichu was first introduced as a joke character, and he first tended to deal with self-damage, which was funny. This is not the case now, and the new and improved Pichu is the real deal.
Pichu has a diminutive stature which makes it hard to hit him. Combined with his fast agility, he is one fast son of a gun. Pichu’s handful of powerful attacks are unavoidable. He shares Pikachu’s recovery move, thus making Pichu effective both off and on stage.
4 Peach
Peach, the princess, is no longer your damsel-in-distress in a castle, awaiting a plumber to rescue her. It’s quite the opposite. The princess can now dish out some discipline herself.
Peach is agile, making It more effortless to dodge and attach unexpectedly. Mastering aerial hoping with Peach allows you to be on the offensive no matter the position of opponents. Peach poses a good moveset that covers both melee and ranged attacks.
Peach’s ability to float makes her an excellent edge guard, and her aerial attacks are devastating, and the best is that she can perform them all while floating on the stage with no penalty.
3 Lucina
Lucina is the clone of Marth. They share the same movesets, animations, weaknesses, and other things. Still, Lucina is better than Marth due to consistency.
Unlike Marth, who is inconsistent with his damage, he needs to hit opponents in a specific way with his falchion to deal good damage. Lucina wields a blade, consistent in its damage output, no matter where you hit your enemy and with what part of the sword.
Lucina is a well-rounded character, has an excellent mindset, and has remarkable recoveries, and her learning curve is not unsurmountable, making her an easier pick.
2 Zero Suit Samus
For a long time, Zero Suit Samus has been considered weak and unreliable, and only mediocre. Samus has made an appearance in 3 Super Smash Bros games and has always felt disappointing, but I would like to argue this narrative, especially for her Zero Suit form.
Zero Suite Samus is a highly mobile character making it very hard to catch up to her. She deals an outrageous amount of damage and can do so in very little time. She does not have great recoveries and is easy to kill. In the hands of a skilled player who can use her mobility Zero Suit Samus is lethal.
The amount of damage she can dish out in so little time is unrivalled.
1 Pyra & Mythra
Pyra and Mythra are the best characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Pyra & Mythra are 2-in-1 fighters, allowing players to switch between them according to the situation. Both have unique movesets and powers. This makes this character pick one of the most versatile, which is always an asset in SSBU.
Pyra & Mythra allow you to harness the power of fire and light, allowing you to gain dominance over your opponents in mere moments. You can easily switch between both in between fights, thus ensuring the element of surprise stays with you.
About Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
The game follows the series’ traditional style of gameplay: controlling one of the various characters, players must use differing attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena to score points and win.
