The Rings of Power premiered with two episodes, and we were introduced to multiple characters. While we knew who most of them were, there were a couple of them whose identity still remains a mystery.
One of these was a man Galadriel sees at the end of Episode 2. After fighting a storm in the Sundering Seas, Galadriel and Hallbrand lie on their boat, exhausted. When the Elven Commander opens her eyes, she sees the silhouette of a man.
So, who is this mystery man? Is he someone who could help Galadriel? What role will he play in The Rings of Power?
The mystery man is most likely Elendil. The silhouetted man and his ship look similar to Elendil and his ship, as we saw in the trailer. In the battle of Middle Earth, his son Isildur would go on to slice Sauron’s hand with the ring.
Elendil and his family were leaving Numenor – the city of men after it was foreshadowed what would become of it in the future. In the current timeline, Elendil, his family, and his followers are going across the Great Sea, but this isn’t an easy task.
Furthermore, he recently lost his wife, and there’s tension within the family. He has three children to take care of, along with the rest of his crew, and things are not looking good for the man.
But here’s the kicker. One of his children goes by the name Isildur. You all would remember him from the prologue of The Fellowship of the Ring. He was the man who cut off Sauron’s hand in the Battle of Middle Earth. It was the hand that possessed the Ring.
Enticed and enchanted by this immensely powerful object and the dark desires it instills in anyone coming across it, Isildur couldn’t destroy it. He was the reason why Sauron’s spirit remained and led to the battle we saw in Peter Jackson’s trilogy.
If you jog your memory further, you’ll realize that one of the notable characters in the OG films was Aragorn. The man known as the Strider is an heir to Isildur’s legacy and decided to change it once and for all when he revealed his identity and stood with the forces of good.
Now, coming to the current show, I believe Elendil would also play a significant role here. In the trailer, we saw Galadriel enter the city of men. We see her in the throne room urging the king to see what’s coming and prepare for it. She asks him to join her in her quest.
So, there’s a good chance that Elendil would be the man who leads her to Numenor. While it isn’t entirely confirmed if the mystery man is Elendil, it is most probable. I guess we just have to wait and find out in Episode 3.
