Yashahime has finally quenched the audience’s curiosity and revealed the identity of Sesshomaru’s wife.
As a show about the next generation, Yashahime is very dear to the fans’ hearts. Following the children of Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshomaru, many original characters make an appearance, triggering the nostalgia to its limits.
Seeing how these characters from Inuyasha have been leading their life in the sequel seems to be therapeutic for some fans while also raising plenty of questions about their actions.
One of the most-asked questions is, of course, regarding the identity of Towa and Setsuna’s mother, aka, Sesshomaru’s wife!
Now let’s be honest, none of us predicted or even expected that the stoic man who never showed romantic feelings towards anyone would actually marry, let alone have kids!
While there were many theories, such as Sesshomaru adopting his twin daughters, the fandom’s resounding opinion was that it was Rin that birthed them.
Is this opinion correct? Fortunately, Yashahime’s episode 15 has finally answered our questions!
1. Who is Sesshomaru’s Wife?
Rin married Sesshomaru and became his wife at some point in time before the events in Yashahime. She then gave birth to their twin daughters, Towa and Setsuna, soon after which they were left in the forest.
Sesshomaru and Rin are the embodiment of a classic story where a human who travels with a demon teaches him to slowly let go of his prejudices against her race.
Since Rin started traveling with him, her warmness and kindness significantly affected Sesshomaru.
His growing compassion towards her allowed him to advance in battle.
However, when he sought to improve his Meido Zangetsuha technique, which came at the cost of Rin’s life, he expressed nearly inconsolable grief, guilt, and shame for allowing her to die for the sake of his own power.
After his mother revived her, he vowed never to let Rin in harm’s way. Following Naraku’s defeat, he sent her off to reside in a village and get used to living with humans once again, where she would be safe from potential harm.
He gave Rin an unspoken choice, i.e., to experience the best of both worlds and then decide whether she wished to follow him after she matured.
Episode 15 of Yashahime made it clear that Rin decided to follow Sesshomaru, and both reciprocated each other’s feelings.
Many fans were against this pairing even before it was made official, arguing that it was considered a classic example of grooming and pedophilic behavior, while others were quick to point out the era in which Inuyasha and Yashahime took place, as well as the choices taken by Sesshomaru and Rin.
No matter what, this episode put an end to all the debates about whether Rin should have ended up with Sesshomaru, as the pairing was confirmed.
2. Did Sesshomaru Abandon His Daughters?
Sesshomaru’s children, Towa and Setsuna, lived together until they were separated tragically by a forest fire. What confused the audience and made them question Sesshomaru’s integrity was that the twins were unaware of their parents’ identity.
Many directly assumed that Sesshomaru had abandoned them; however, others still had some hope left.
After all, the great demon who ended up caring for people other than himself and took a human wife surely wouldn’t be that cruel. And as it turns out, they are indeed correct.
Sesshomaru did not abandon his daughters but was forced to leave them in a forest behind a protective barrier to keep them safe from Kirinmaru. He also inserted silver and gold pearls into his daughter’s eyes, thus adding an extra layer of safety.
Even after his daughters were discovered by Zero, he allowed her to set the forest on fire.
The reason he did this was not because of his lack of care, but that he was confident in the twins and the pearls he inserted in their eyes.
As a result, both Towa and Setsuna ended up surviving and growing up to become powerful half-demons.
3. Is Rin Still Alive?
Rin is currently sealed within the Sacred Tree of Ages and is considered to be neither dead nor alive. It is assumed that Sesshomaru put her in this state; however, the reason is unknown.
Rin has already been revived twice, and Sesshomaru was warned that there would be no third time. Many fans have theorized that Sesshomaru sealed her in the tree in order to save her from dying permanently.
It is also believed that every event in Yashahime is triggered by his desire to save Rin by manipulating time.
This can also be why the Tree of Ages asked Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha to fight Sesshomaru and put his actions to a stop.
After all, perhaps blood relations might make the great demon hesitate. To conclude, whether Rin will revive probably all depends upon the actions of the young princesses.
Keep tuned in for more theories and information!
4. About Hanyô no Yashahime
Hanyô no Yashahime follows the adventures of Sesshomaru’s half-demon twin daughters, Towa and Setsuna. When they were young, the half-demon twins were separated from each other during a forest fire.
While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wandered into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan.
She is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sôta, and his family. Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened!
This allowed Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a Demon Slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister!
Joined by Moroha, the daughter of InuYasha and Kagome, the three young girls travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.
