Who Is The Main Antagonist In Dr. Stone?

Fans all know too well how Dr. Stone has been an exhilarating science journey from start to finish since the anime premiered in 2019.

But the antagonists opposing Senkū and his love for science are added flavors that spice up the anime.

“Who is the antagonist in Dr. Stone?” That is the question many have been asking since Season 2 of the anime ended airing.

From Tsukasa to Magma, it seems that there will always be some people who are “unbelievers” of science.

Regardless of how they feel about science initially, both have one thing in common: midway in the anime, they put their trust in Senkū and his scientific skills.

As grandeur as this may all sound, Dr. Stone has one main antagonist who is as obscure as stardust on sea cucumbers. So, without further ado, let’s dissect the identity of this mysterious being opposing Senkū and his beloved science.

SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from Dr. Stone.

The antagonist in Dr. Stone is known as Why-Man, and Senku and his friends will finally meet this mysterious being on their perilous Moon Mission.

As a side note, our cast of characters in Dr. Stone who are living in the Stone Age traveled from Stone Age Japan to many countries around the world; then finally, up to space to land on the moon’s surface. Exhilarating, isn’t it?

While the anime has been busy promoting its Dr. Stone: Ryūsui Special and Dr. Stone Season 3 (an upcoming anime of the series in 2023), the climax of the Dr. Stone manga has just begun: the main cast of characters confront the treacherous Why-Man face-to-face in the upcoming chapters.

Why-Man’s identity has been kept a secret from many readers for so long. But hopefully, the upcoming chapters will flesh out his character so fans can fully understand Why-Man’s intentions and desires in petrifying the earth.

Why Is Why-Man On The Dark Side Of The Moon?

Based on the recent chapters of the manga, fans believe that Why-Man resides on the “Dark Side” of the Moon because it sustains him.

The dark side of the moon isn’t just a mere location. It’s the place where some residue of an unidentified object secretes its waste.

This waste is equivalent to an “ominous dark stain” that Kohaku spotted from afar via a telescope back on earth.

Many fans say “waste” even though the official manga chapters labeled it as an “ominous dark stain”.

But whatever it is, it’s causing the Moon Mission trio (science genius and leader, Senkū; the agile warrior, Kohaku; and the sharpshooter soldier, Stanley) a rupture!

Senkū may not be in frenzy. But in the last manga panel, he smilingly stated, “All along…this whole time…closer than we knew…Why-Man was you!”

Goes to show that Senkū is 10 billion percent ahead of the team when it comes to figuring out the identity of the mystery man.

Why Is Why-Man Imitating Senkū?

There are many possible reasons why Why-Man is imitating Senkū, and the first of which is Why-Man is the adult version of a Senkū who gained the capability to travel in the past and the future.

It may sound absurd, but remember that this is Dr. Stone we’re talking about. So, time travel is up for debate when it comes to Why-Man’s real identity as a futuristic version of an adult Senkū.

Another possibility why Why-Man talks like Senkū is because Why-Man is an AI or an artificial-intelligent being made from the hands of Senkū himself.

This theory has been speculated many times because Why-Man imitates Senkū’s voice using an artificial voice.

The third and most popular reason why Why-Man imitates Senkū is that Why-Man is Senkū’s biological parent. It’s a far-off theory, but remember that Senkū’s parents were not properly introduced in the series.

And remember the general rule in anime and manga when it comes to off-screen characters: if the bodies are not found, then no proof said characters have died.

No matter how Why-Man presents himself to the main cast or what plans he may have on hand, Senkū and the members of his Kingdom of Science will stop him on this perilous moon mission.

After all, they have the members of the Kingdom to back them up, a grenade-net launcher, as well as the medusa capsule on their side.
