Who is the human kid with Jake Sully in the Avatar 2 trailer?

Avatar: The Way of Water is making its way to theatres on December 16, introducing a whole new topography and the Na’vi clan in Pandora. While there will be quite a few recognizable faces from the previous movie, Avatar 2 will bring on some new characters as well.

One of them will be the human kid, Javier, who is seen living with the Omaticaya clan. But who exactly is he?

Jake and Neytiri adopt a human child called Javier “Spider” Socorro. He was born and rescued from Hell’s Gate, which is the human base on Pandora depicted in Avatar (2009). He earns the name “Spider” because of how well he imitates the Na’vis’ movements.

Curious about Javier’s role in the movie? Read on to know more.

Why did Jake and Neytiri adopt a human son?

While the film has not yet revealed why or how exactly Javier was adopted, it seems like he could’ve been left behind when the humans were ordered to evacuate in the first Avatar movie.

As per producer Jon Landau, who spoke to Empire, he stated that the adoption was Jake’s decision and it caused a bit of a strain on his relationship with Neytiri.

Jake took him in but Neytiri always saw him as one of the people who destroyed her home and killed her father. So, you have all these dynamics playing out.

Besides Javier, Jake and Neytiri have three biological children (Neteyam, Lo’ak, and Tuktirey) and one adopted Na’vi teen, Kiri.

Since we know that the RDA will return as a major threat in Avatar 2, Javier may also have a role to play in that plot. I’m sure that Neytiri won’t be the only one who has a problem with Javier being part of the Na’vi clan, so we might see him teased or bullied by the clan.

In such a case, the RDA could try to recruit him as a double agent, or worse, he could be perceived and ostracized as one without even being part of their schemes. I’m sure Javier will have to prove his innocence in any case.

One of the themes that Avatar 2 focuses is on how “family is our fortress,” so Jake’s own family being at the center of it makes sense. They will have to come together and work together despite their differences in order to take down the double threat of the Metkayina clan and the RDA.
