At Ascension 1, characters shielded by Icy Paws move 10% faster and consume stamina 10% slower. At C2, Icy Paws’ damage and shield’s DMG absorption increases by 15%. Additionally, when the paws hit a target, a shield with 50% DMG absorption is created for nearby party members.
2Noelle
Noelle is the most versatile shield user. Her elemental skill makes her like Diona, but stronger. She can take the field longer than most other healers, dealing damage and stopping the opponent’s damage in the process. Of all the 4-star characters, Noelle offers the best shield quality.
Noelle is a free character, but do not underestimate her. You can summon a Geo shield using her elemental skill, which possesses 250% DMG absorption efficiency against both Elemental and Physical DMG.
Noelle can heal even when not on the field. At Ascension 1, when your active character’s HP falls below 30%, a shield is created for them, which lasts for 20 seconds and absorbs damage.
Activating Noelle’s constellations unlocks her true potential. At C1, the Breastplate has a 100% chance of activating its healing effects. C3 increases Breastplate’s level by 3. At C4, Breastplate deals 400% of Noelle’s ATK as Geo DMG to opponents.
1Zhongli
Zhongli, the god of Geo, is the best shield user in Genshin Impact. He has the highest base shield strength, with 150% damage absorption against all elemental and physical damage.
These fantastic defensive stats also come along with the offensive benefit of reducing elemental resistance of nearby opponents, making it a dangerous combination.

Zhongli’s passives upgrade the Jade shield too. At Ascension 1, fortified characters have their shield strength increased by 5%. C6 grants Zhongli another role: healer. When the Jade Shield takes damage, 40% of that damage is converted to HP for the shielded character.
