It has been a happy weekend for Star Wars fans who were rewarded with the first episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. We’re digging deeper into the Jedi’s life and exploring his relationship with a young Luke, during a time when Darth Vader is rising to power.
Now that we’re zeroing in on Obi-Wan, it is only natural for fans to wonder if Obi-Wan ever had a love interest, or will have one during the events of the show.
During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan and Mandalorian duchess Satine Kryze shared romantic feelings but they were never formally involved with each other. They don’t have any kids together, either.
Their romance was depicted in The Clone Wars, which I’d recommend watching if you haven’t already.
How did Obi-Wan and Satine meet?
Satine was away for diplomacy and statecraft training while her father fought during the Clone Wars. She aimed to take over his position after he died and landed in Mandalore under the protection of Obi-Wan and his then-Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn.
It was during this period that the two developed feelings for each other. But given how the Jedi were discouraged from forming romantic relationships, Obi-Wan did not act on his feelings for her. In the same way, Mandalorians were not known to befriend Jedis, which stopped her from expressing herself as well.
Satine continued to campaign on Mandalore during the Clone Wars, while Obi-Wan went away doing his missions.
They crossed paths one final time when Maul kidnapped Satine to lure Obi-Wan back to the planet. Maul knew the only way he could hurt Obi-Wan was to take away his paramour once and for all—so he killed Satine right in front of his eyes.
Some fan theories put it out there that Satine’s nephew Korkie could’ve been the child she had with Obi-Wan that he didn’t know about. But there is no evidence to canonically prove that.
While Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala are popularly known to be the ones who broke the romance rule, Obi-Wan later did confess that he would’ve left the Jedi Order if Satine had asked him to. What an intriguing turn of events that would have been!
Will Obi-Wan have a love interest in the show?
Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place after the Clone Wars, so we know that the Satine chapter of his life is over and she won’t appear on the show.
Besides the Jedi lifestyle, there is nothing stopping Obi-Wan from having a romantic interest in the show, but I highly doubt there will be one.
The show is about a very turbulent time in Jedi history when they were being hunted down and killed. It also deals with how Obi-Wan has to watch over a young Luke.
With only four more episodes to go, there might not be room to introduce and get the audience invested in a love interest. Besides this, the original Star Wars trilogy also confirms that he has no partners in the later stages of his life, either.
This really does mean that Satine was the one for him. Unless, of course, we’re shown differently in the rest of the Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes.
