The single-player campaign of Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is already being termed one of the best-ever COD campaigns by fans worldwide. Its storyline resumes a couple of years after the events of Modern Warfare (2019), where the fearsome Task Force 141 is already established and has begun its counter-terrorism operations.
However, one of the most spine-chilling parts of the entire campaign comes at the very end, when Captain Price reveals to Kate Laswell and all the Modern Warfare fans that the next bad guy in the MW series is indeed Makarov!
Now, where the players of the original Modern Warfare were shocked and excited after hearing that name, the new reboot players are wondering just who the hell Makarov is and why he is such a big deal.
Vladimir Makarov is the main antagonist of the original Modern Warfare trilogy and leader of the Inner Circle – a Russian Ultranationalist terrorist organization.
Just his name is enough to strike fear and a feeling of uneasiness in the mind of the returning players, who were introduced to him in the original MW2 through one of the most controversial and grotesque missions in all of the COD campaign titled “No Russian.”
During the “No Russian” mission, Makarov and his group brutally massacre hundreds of innocent civilians at Zakhaev International Airport in Moscow in an attempt to blame the terror attack on the US and instigate a war between Russia and the US.
The trick Makarov pulled here was to speak only in English and use no Russian.
This mission is also referenced in the post-credit scene of Modern Warfare 2 (2022), where “M” or Makarov texts one of his companions “No Russian” while on an airplane, hinting that a similar event as the original may reoccur in the next Modern Warfare game.
In the original MW3, Makarov was killed and hanged by Captain John Price in a fierce brawl.
However, as we already know, the MW reboot follows a very different storyline from the original, so let’s wait and see how fate changes for Makarov this time.
