Ms. Marvel episode 3 further reveals the story of Aisha, Kamala’s great-grandmother. Yusuf, Kamala’s father, had a version that suggested Aisha had tainted a family’s reputation and run away.
However, in episode 3, we hear another version from Najma, who was supposedly Aisha’s friend. So, what do we know about Aisha so far?
Aisha, Najma, and a few other people were Djinns or ClanDestines who belonged to another dimension. They were seeking the bangle to use its powers and return to the dimension of Noor – Light, their source of power.
After saving Kamala from the DODC, Najma tells Aisha’s story. The two used to be friends back in 1942 and were searching for two bangles. In a temple that was demolished and looted by the British, they found one bangle. However, the other one was still missing.
According to Najma, this bangle had powers that could be used to create an interdimensional portal and would lead the Djinns to their homes. However, she doesn’t tell Kamala that using only one bangle could cause a catastrophe.
The ClanDestines and the Djinns in the comics are a group of enhanced individuals who span across generations right from the 12th century. Over generations, some of these ClanDestines became supervillains while others became superheroes who joined hands with other Marvel heroes. So, this could mean that Najma and Aisha were also part of the ClanDestine group.
While this theory is more or less true, there are still some hints at the Inhumans and Kree connection. For instance, in the temple in 1942, the Djinns had found the bangle on a blue arm.
Now, Krees are known to be blue-colored humanoids who have appeared in the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy and even Captain Marvel. They were the ones who gave Carol Danvers her powers.
In an interview, Kevin Feige had mentioned how the Ms. Marvel show is going through some changes. He reasoned that Ms. Marvel in the comics had a certain place in the larger universe, and the character also has a certain place in the MCU. However, these two places don’t match.
This could be a hint that they won’t make Kamala an Inhuman, but a different species such as the ClanDestine. Alternatively, the Inhuman part of her identity would still hold but wouldn’t be the predominant one.
As I always say, all this is speculation, and we just have to wait to find out. After all, the MCU is getting pretty good at keeping secrets from the fans.
