[There will be spoilers from the novel]
1. Who is Greed?
Greed is the Commander level Shadow that was created from the S-Rank Hunter Hwang Dong-Su by Jin-Woo. It was done when the former was visiting the International Guild Conference in the USA as the representative of Ahjin Guild.
After becoming a shadow, Greed maintained his sanity but gained unwavering loyalty to Jin-Woo. Greed recognized the mistakes he had made in life and kept his mouth shut and maintained a calm disposition.
2. Who is Hwang Dong-Su?
Hwang Dong-Su was a South Korean S-Rank Hunter. However, he left South Korea to work for the Scavenger Guild in America and was treated as a traitor by many in his home country.
Hwang Dong-Su is also extremely proud and arrogant. He revels in his strength and believes himself to be superior to everyone except few. This arrogance also makes him careless and underestimate others, as he believed he could kill Sung Jin-Woo’s father but was instead easily beaten by Sung Il-Hwan.
Dong-Su also had an older brother called Hwang Dong-Suk who was the leader of the party Jin-Woo joined before. Both Dong-Suk and his group died at the hands of Sung Jin-Woo after they attempted to kill him and Yoo Jin-Ho.
3. Animosity b/w Dong-Su and Jin-woo
Dong-Su had an older brother called Hwang Dong-Suk who was the leader of the party Jin-Woo joined earlier. He and his party are commonly tagged as Lizards aka a group of hunters who left weaker hunters to die and stole their equipment.
Ironically, both Dong-Suk and his group died at the hands of Sung Jin-Woo after they attempted to kill him and Yoo Jin-Ho.
After the death of his older brother, Hwang Dong-Suk swore to punish the perpetrators. He cried for his brother but later confessed that his reason for wanting to kill jin-Woo was not entirely because he killed his older brother but because he just needed an excuse to murder.
I. Red Gate Arc
When Hwang Dong-Su’s brother died, he investigated and found Jin-Woo and Jin-Ho to be the only survivors from the raiding party. Stricken by grief and the thirst to inflict punishment upon the perpetrators, he cleared his schedule and went back to South Korea.
He was disappointed to find that Jin-Woo wasn’t around as he had entered a red gate. He assumed that the chances of Jin-Woo returning alive from a red gate were very slim and thought of him as a dead man.
He soon returned to the USA.
II. International Guild Conference
Hwang Dong-Su after hearing that not only was Sung Jin-Woo alive, but he was also internationally acclaimed as a top tier S rank hunter after clearing two S rank gates. This leads him to conclude that the man behind his brother’s death was Jin-Woo.
Dong-Su wanted revenge but was warned by Thomas Andre to not cause any problems for Jin-Woo as the Scavenger Guild wanted to maintain amicable relations with him. Still, unfortunately, Dong-Su had other plans at hand.
He kidnapped Jin-Ho in his hotel room while Jin-Woo was busy with the Conference. He purposely had a healer as an accomplice, so Jin-Ho wouldn’t die while being tortured.
As Dong-Su continued to torture Jin-Ho, Jin-Woo suddenly appears using shadow exchange, frightening Dong-Su and the healer. Upon, Jin-Woo’s arrival, Dong-Su was punched viciously rendering him unconscious.
Thomas Andre considered Dong-Su to be a vital asset to the Scavenger Guild as a powerful S-Rank Hunter and could not let Jin-Woo kill him. After arriving on the scene and seeing Dong-Su unconscious, he prepares to fight with Jin-Woo along with the entire guild.
After the fight with the scavenger guild in which Jin-Woo and his shadows injured Thomas, Hunters rushed to Dong-Su to ensure that he was alright.
However, upon inspecting him, they realized he did not have a pulse and had already died from his wounds and was turned into a shadow by Jin-Woo.
