The Clash of Prince Daemon and The Crabfeeder in House of the Dragon

Episode 2 of House of the Dragon revealed a potential villain for the show—The Crabfeeder. Although he wouldn’t be the main villain, his clash with Prince Daemon seems to be leading to a Game of Thrones-style face-off between the two.

Lord Corlys approaches Prince Daemon at the end of Episode 2 and asks him to take down Crabfeeder, whose real name is Craghas Drahar. This is after King Viserys I declines to attack him to prevent a war with the Free Cities.

So, who exactly is Crabfeeder? How is he related to the Free Cities? Will Prince Daemon kill him? I’ve got answers to all these questions and more.

Craghas Drahar, AKA Crabfeeder, is a Prince of Myr. He went to war against Corlys and Daemon after taking over Stepstones and charging Westerosi ships a high toll for passing by. The war lasted for 9 years in which Daemon beheaded Crabfeeder.

In Episode 2, Lord Corlys approaches King Viserys with the problem of Crabfeeder. He tells how the man who is some kind of a Prince has been killing the Pirates in the Stepstones area.

However, he warns Viserys that if the man is not taken down, he’ll take over Stepstones, which isn’t good for Corlys’ business. Viserys declines to take any action because he doesn’t want to go to war with the Free Cities.

How is Crabfeeder related to the Free Cities?

Crabfeeder’s real name is Craghas Drahar. He is the Prince of Myr, which happens to be a part of the Triarchy with Lys and Tyrosh. As a result, attacking Crabfeeder would mean launching an attack on the Triarchy itself.

In the books, the Triarchy had charged Prince Craghas Drahar with the task of ridding the Stepstones area of the pirates. While he went about it in his own brutal way, he did get the job done.

However, Drahar didn’t stop there. He started charging any Westerosi ship passing by a toll to go to Essos. Initially, the men on these ships were ready to pay the toll because at least they wouldn’t have to encounter pirates on their journey.

However, after a while, Craghas Drahar increased the toll amount to a point where it was too high to be paid. Those who didn’t pay the money were killed brutally.

Lord Corlys’ family earns majorly through his ships that go from the Stepstones to the Essos and back. So, this takeover of the Stepstones caused him a heavy loss.

As a result, after Viserys declined to act upon this predicament, he reached out to Prince Daemon. This occurred at the end of Episode 2. It leads to a potential alliance between two people who formerly opposed each other.

Does Crabfeeder get killed by Prince Daemon in the books?

In Fire and Blood, Prince Daemon goes to war with Crabfeeder. The war lasts for nine years, from 106 AC to 115 AC. During this time, the two characters have a standoff, and Prince Daemon beheads Crabfeeder with his sword, the Dark Sister.

Despite Lord Corlys’ power and large fleet of ships, the war waged on for a long time. In fact, it was quite difficult for him to take over the Stepstones. Even after Prince Daemon killed Crabfeeder in 108 AC, he had to spend the next few years defending his position at the Stepstones.

The war ended after Daemon solidified his position. He also had to return to Runestone after his wife’s death and claim that land for himself.

What will happen to Crabfeeder in the show?

So far, the show’s been following the books. This means that a war between the two forces is guaranteed. Crabfeeder will most likely perish, too, but the question is how. Considering that George R. R. Martin is closely working with the show’s creators, his death is bound to be similar.

However, if they decide to make this war and the death of its villain a little more dramatic, Prince Daemon could use his dragon, Caraxes, to lay waste to Crabfeeder. I guess we just have to wait and find out which one it will be.
