Naruto is one of the most well-known and popular series both in Japan as well as internationally. One of the reasons behind this is its extensive world that was slowly built over the years.
Even after the original story has ended, its fanbase keeps on growing, and as one of the greatest clans to ever exist, the Uchiha’s are always being talked about.
With members such as Itachi, Sasuke, and Madara, this clan has made a long-lasting impression on us, especially when considering their dojutsu, the Sharingan, and its influence on the Naruto Universe.
While we have always debated about the best dojutsu among the top three, let us talk about the best Sharingan abilities themselves.
With abilities unique to each wielder, I have ranked the top ten Sharingan users in the Naruto series in this list.
10 Naori Uchiha
Naori was undoubtedly a powerful Uchiha as she was able to awaken the Sharingan and the elusive Mangekyou Sharingan. She was also one of the few Uchiha’s who had never succumbed to the clan’s Curse of Hatred.
Naori was able to use one of the clan’s kinjutsu: Izanami, which trapped a target in an endlessly-looped genjutsu with no hope of escaping unless they accepted their flaws.
She used this on her close friend Naka Uchiha, who ultimately corrected his ways. Her superior eye prowess ranks her in the 10th position on this list.
9 Izuna Uchiha
Izuna Uchiha, along with Madara, was the first Uchiha to awaken Mangekyou Sharingan and was renowned as the clan’s strongest and most gifted member.
Due to his prodigious talent, he often sparred with his brother and was his equal before Madara acquired the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
His prowess allowed him to fight on similar grounds with Tobirama Senju, renowned as one of the strongest and fastest of his time.
Izuna had mastered his Sharingan at a very young age, and when it was used in combination with his kenjutsu, he was near unstoppable.
While his Sharingan’s abilities were not revealed, they are assumed to be on the same level as Madara. Due to this, he is ranked 9th on this list.
8 Fugaku Uchiha
Fugaku Uchiha was the head of the Uchiha clan and the leader of the Konoha Military Police Force. He was also the father of Itachi and Sasuke.
Fugaku, as the head of the clan, was extremely strong and was considered a rare genius. During the third-war, he was feared by the other nations, and his eye prowess was so great that he was nicknamed “Wicked Eye Fugaku.”
He had awakened his clan’s dojutsu, the Sharingan, as well as the Mangekyou Sharingan during the Third Great Shinobi War. His dojutsu was enough for Fugaku to be capable of controlling the Nine-Tails if he wished.
Even when Itachi betrayed his clan, despite being extremely powerful, he hoped to avoid fighting against Fugaku. All of this makes place eighth on this list.
7 Shisui Uchiha
Shisui Uchiha was an Anbu from Konoha’s Uchiha clan and one of the most talented members they ever had. He had mastered his Sharingan’s use until the point where it was said to be better or on par with Itachi’s.
He later awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, which gave him access to a powerful technique called Kotoamatsukami. This technique allowed him to enter a person’s mind and manipulate them, while the victim wouldn’t even notice that they were being controlled.
It was so powerful that Shisui believed he could use it to make the entire Uchiha clan abandon the coup d’etat.
Shisui also succeeded in manifesting a red tomoe Susanoo which could unleash a barrage of chakra needles at an incredible speed and provide excellent defense.
His eye prowess would’ve continued to grow; however, Shisui is placed 7th on this list due to his untimely death.
6 Itachi Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha was a prodigy who unlocked his Sharingan at an early age and had activated his Mangekyo Sharingan during his teens.
Thanks to his eye prowess, Itachi could cast powerful illusions, dissolve his body into a flock of crows, and was one of the strongest Fire Style users in the series.
However, his real power stemmed from his Mangekyo Sharingan, which granted him access to three legendary techniques: Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo.
It also resulted in him awakening Susanoo, a spectral warrior that would protect him from damage.
In addition to the chakra swords and Yasaka Magatama common to all Susanoo, Itachi’s Susanoo wielded the Sword of Totsuka, which could seal any person it pierced into its gourd, and the Yata Mirror, that could reflect any attack by changing its chakra nature.
The simultaneous use of both weapons made Itachi virtually invincible.
However, due to the enormous chakra drain and eyesight deterioration these abilities caused, Itachi is placed 6th on this list.
5 Indra Otsutsuki
Indra Otsutsuki was the first son of Hagoromo and was credited with being the creator of Ninjutsu and the progenitor of the Uchiha clan.
Like Kaguya, he possessed the Sharingan, which he awoke after saving his brother’s life. Over time, he awakened the Mangekyou after killing his two closest followers and unlocked the ability to use Susanoo.
Owing to his talent, even without his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, Indra was capable of manifesting his Susanoo’s Complete Body, accentuating eye-holes with spikes over it, a long tengu nose, and three gaps on each of its cheeks.
His mastery over the technique was such that his Susanoo could combat Asura’s battle avatar and dwarf the surrounding landscape. While the full extent of his Sharingan is not shown, what we know of him makes him one of the strongest Mangekyo Sharingan users in the entire series.
4 Madara Uchiha
Madara, along with Izuna, was the first Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan. His Mangekyou form appeared as three large tomoe’s overlapping each other at the bottoms and encircling the pupil.
When his eyesight began deteriorating from overuse, he replaced his eyes with Izuna’s, who was killed by Tobirama, thus restoring his vision.
By implanting his brothers’ eyes into his own, Madara unlocked the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which possessed a rare “Straight Tomoe” that granted him an even higher capability of reading and predicting his opponents’ movements.
Madara was able to use his techniques even while not having any eyes. In addition, it gave him access to a perfect Susanoo, whose power was comparable or even higher than that of the tailed beasts.
However, since Madara’s Mangekyo Sharingan abilities were never revealed, he is placed 4th on this list.
3 Obito & Kakashi
Obito and Kakashi shared a pair of Sharingan, each having one. Due to this, their abilities were similar, and they transformed at the same time.
Being an Uchiha, Obito had awakened his Sharingan and even Mangekyou, which allowed him to perform Kamui, which served as a gateway to another dimensional space. Hence, Kakashi himself could use it and even became proficient.
After Kakashi lost his Sharingan, Obito temporarily inhabited his body, allowing him to use both of his Mangekyou. Due to this, he could also manifest an already “Complete Body” form of the Susanoo, which had the intangibility of Kamui extended to it.
In this state, Kakashi was incredibly strong and could hold his own against Madara and Kaguya for a while. Due to this, Obito and Kakashi’s shared eye prowess is placed 3rd on this list.
2 Hagoromo Otsusuki
After finding the corpse of his love interest, Hagoromo awakened his Sharingan. However, unlike others, his Sharingan emerged fully mature with three tomoe in both eyes and could maintain usage of this power seemingly indefinitely.
Later on, after being forced to injure his younger brother fatally, Hagoromo awakened Mangekyou Sharingan in both eyes.
Thus, he was able to manifest a Complete Body Susanoo that could fight on par with Kaguya’s Ten-Tails form. It was even able to deflect one of the Ten-Tails’ Tailed Beast Ball by utilizing chakra blades. Due to this, his Sharingan is ranked 2nd on this list.
1 Sasuke Uchiha
After awakening his Sharingan on the night of the Uchiha Clan Downfall, Sasuke quickly mastered it to the point where it became even stronger than Itachi’s.
Sasuke Uchiha is the strongest Sharingan user of all time in Naruto Shippuden. With his Mangekyou Sharingan and Six Paths chakra, he could make the most impossible feats possible. He could use his prowess to relay information to others, enter their subconscious, and suppress the tailed beasts.
Later on, he awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after Itachi’s death and used the latter’s eye to awaken the elusive eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
His Eternal Mangekyou was a “straight tomoe” type, that granted him fluidity and mastery over its techniques. Sasuke was also able to repeatedly use its powers with no signs of exhaustion, unlike before.
With his left Mangekyou, Sasuke could use Amaterasu, i.e., black flames that can burn anything, and with his right, he could use Kagutsuchi to shape the fire into a variety of forms. He could also manifest a Complete Body Susanoo which was comparable in power to Tailed Beasts.
In addition, since his chakra was a legacy of Indra, he could use his Sharingan to its best potential. After gaining access to the Six Paths Chakra, his eye prowess further evolved into Rinne-Sharingan, making it the strongest Sharingan in the Naruto series.
