Thomas Shelby Suffers from Seizures in Peaky Blinders Season 6 Episode 2

In Season 6 Episode 1, we saw a reformed Tommy who has given up alcohol and seems to have a clear idea of what he’s doing. We saw him mess with Michael, Gina, and her uncle, Jack Nelson.

All these indicated that Thomas Shelby might just be in a better place, but unsurprisingly we were all wrong. As Lizzie in Episode 1 said, ‘No, Aunt Polly. No whiskey. No Tommy.’

Are they similar to the visions he had in season 1 after smoking opium, or is it something else? Why exactly is Tommy having seizures? Let’s find out.

Thomas Shelby’s seizures, hallucinations, and vision are because of the tumor in his brain called tuberculoma. It is caused by the same bacteria that causes tuberculosis, and it is inoperable.

What happens to Thomas Shelby when he has seizures?

When Thomas has seizures, his body starts shaking and writhing as if he has fits. His mind goes back to his time in the war. He sees a montage of events flash before him, in which he’s underground and is fighting off a soldier.

While we don’t know who this soldier is, we know these flashes are something Tommy saw even in Season 1 after smoking opium.

We also come to know that Thomas had a seizure before on the ship on his way back home, although it wasn’t as bad as when Lizzie was with him.

Besides these, he also seems to be hallucinating. In a sequence, when he enters a room at the House of Commons, he is attacked by a soldier, and after struggling and fighting for a while, Tommy manages to kill this soldier.

When Tommy opens his eyes, he’s lying on the floor, but there’s no soldier. It was all in his head. This could either be a seizure or an episode of hallucination. But why is all this happening to Tommy now?

Why is Tommy having seizures?

Although Tommy has PTSD and has always had visions and night terrors, it is for different reasons this time. Thomas is diagnosed with tuberculoma, a tumor in the brain caused by the same bacteria that causes tuberculosis. Thomas’ hallucinations, seizures, and visions are symptoms of Tuberculoma.

The doctor tells Thomas all this and adds that soon his condition will worsen, and he’d need people around him to help him. When Thomas asks for how much time he has, the doctor replies a year or 18 months at the maximum.

We now know that when Ruby had said the grey man with the green eyes was here to take her and Thomas away, this is what she meant. The curse by Navadni Barwell killed Ruby after she got tuberculosis and now most likely would kill Thomas due to tuberculoma.
