Kagura, the “ultra-hot tempered China girl,’ is one of the most beloved characters in Gintama, and her interactions with others often become the highlight of episodes.
While most of them act as comedic relief, Kagura does not lack scenes that show her emotional maturity.
However, she is still a young girl who is easily impressionable. Otae, Tsukuyo, and others have been an influence on her, invoking a desire in her to be girly and have a romantic relationship.
Furthermore, as she grows up and forms a deeper connection with those around her, many wonder whether Kaguya loves someone romantically.
Due to Gintama ending this year, everyone is speculating whether Sorachi will add some romance, and if so, who will be the one Kaguya ends up with.
1. Who Does Kagura End Up with in Gintama?
Kagura does not end up with anyone in Gintama because of her age and lack of emotional maturity when considering romance.
Throughout the series, her dynamic with the characters has been comedic, emotional at times, but never romantic.
With Gintoki, she takes up the position of a daughter, or a partner-in-crime, whereas, with Shinpachi, she behaves like a younger sister.
When interacting with the Shinsengumi, especially Okita, she acts like a friendly rival, and similarly, has various kinds of dynamics with other characters.
Despite this, there is no lack of fans who ship her with other characters and desperately hope for their one-true-pair to come true.
2. Does Kagura Love Shimura Shinpachi?
Shinpachi and Kagura’s dynamic is one of the funniest to watch. The straight man act of the former and the Gintoki-like behavior of the girl often make their interactions a delight to watch.
However, their serious moments shed an entirely different light on their relationship that makes people ship them.
Although Kaguya often bullies him mercilessly, and Shinpachi chastizes her, it is similar to how siblings behave.
They care deeply for one another, to the point where Kaguya awakened her hidden Yato strength when he was getting beaten to death in Yoshiwara.
Kagura loves Shinpachi as a brother and does not have any romantic thoughts towards him. They are part of one family, the Yorozuya, and are willing to do anything to ensure the other’s happiness.
3. Does Kaguya Love Okita Sougo?
Okita and Kagura (Okikage) is one of the most popular ships in the Gintama fandom, and not without reason. Whenever these two share the screen, it is bound to make the audience laugh and awe.
They are a perfect match for each other; however, it isn’t in the sense you might think. They suit each other well, not in a romantic sense, but rather, as rivals.
They instigate fights all the time and use loving nicknames such as “super sadist” and “China girl.” Delightful, aren’t they? Despite their rivalry, they respect each other immensely, and grudgingly, work quite well together.
They care for each other and often hide their good intentions behind casual insults. Kagura and Sougo have faith in each other, and while this has not been confirmed nor denied, Kagura is the second known female character to who Sougo apologizes.
One of the main reasons people ship Okita and Kagura is their tsundere acts; however, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that they share a romantic relationship. They seem more like siblings who regularly fight and yet are always there for each other.
In the end, it seems like Kagura does not love Sougo romantically and will always share a sibling-like dynamic with most characters, let alone him.
Seeing how love and relationships have been portrayed in Gintama, this is not that surprising. In fact, most prefer it this way.
4. About Gintama
The story is set in an alternate-history late-Edo period, where humanity is attacked by aliens called “Amanto.” Edo Japan’s samurai fight to defend Earth, but the shōgun cowardly surrenders when he realizes the aliens’ power.
He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country. The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.
The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
