The Bad Batch Season 1 Major Deaths Explained

If you’re a member of the Star Wars fandom, you should have a high tolerance for character deaths by now. We have been seeing major as well as supporting characters die since we started investing our emotions into the franchise.

The Star Wars animated series, The Bad Batch, is no different. To begin with, I’m not even sure how long the members of the Bad Batch survive after the Clone Wars.

Thankfully, there are no major deaths in The Bad Batch Season 1. The two notable deaths are of Taun We and Jedi Master Depa Billaba. However, no major character has died as of now.

Depa Billaba is killed during Order 66; she is one of the first ones to die in the series. Apart from Billaba, Crosshair kills several Saw Guerrera’s refugees as a part of displaying his loyalty towards the Galactic Empire. All of this takes place towards the beginning of Season 1.

Taun We

The other notable death is of Taun We. She was one of the Kaminoans in Attack of the Clones, who escorted Obi-Wan to the Fett residence. Fennec Shand kills Taun We for intercepting Cad Bane’s delivery of Omega back to Nala Se’s care.

Does Orn Free Ta appear in The Bad Batch?

Before making his appearance in The Bad Batch, Orn Free Ta appeared in The Clone Wars. The Senator is shot at in “Devil’s Deal,” but is lucky enough not to die. He remains a victim of an “attempted” assassination.

If we follow canon, Orn Free Ta later appears in the Lord of the Sith novel.

Does Lama Su die in The Bad Batch Season 1?

Lama Su, who first appears in Attack of the Clones, also appears in The Bad Batch. Admiral Rampart deems him untrustworthy, and Lama Su himself does not trust the Empire and fears losing control of his cloning operations.

Lama Su

In one scene, we see Lama Su surrounded by soldiers with their weapons drawn. The scene ends with the doors to the room closing in, leaving the audience confused about his fate. However, I guess he is not dead, either.

It is most likely that Lama Su has been taken into custody by the Empire on the grounds of treason instead of being killed. So, we may see him sometime later in the series, maybe in Season 2!

Do The Bad Batch members die in Season 1?

Wrecker

All members of Clone Force 99, aka The Bad Batch, survive the first season. Wrecker, Hunter, Tech, Echo, and Omega successfully escape Kaminoa in the season finale. While Crosshair stays to right his wrongs, he survives, too, as indicated by his presence in the second season.

Wrecker was one of the characters people expected to die. He could have died due to his chip malfunctioning when he went into the “good soldier” mode. However, Rex and his brothers saved him before things went downhill.

Will Gungi die in The Bad Batch Season 2?

The trailer for The Bad Batch Season 2 teased the return of a Wookiee Jedi youngling called Gungi, who first appeared in The Clone Wars. Gungi will be seen fighting with Omega in Season 2. According to most fan theories, Gungi will be the first major death in The Bad Batch.

While the makers might choose to take a different route with Gungi, especially since The Bad Batch is in need of allies, Gungi meeting a tragic end would make the most sense for the series.

Gungi

The Bad Batch depicts the transition between the Clone Wars and the era of the Civil Wars. It also focuses on the amount of suffering the Empire brought to the galaxy. So, Gungi, a character from the Clone Wars, dying in The Bad Batch Season 2 would only prove this point further.

Moreover, having too many Jedi alive after Order 66 doesn’t make sense for the franchise, as it doesn’t go with the narrative of the original trilogy or its sequels.

Yoda already tells Luke in Return of the Jedi that he will be the last of the Jedi, but the franchise already goes against it, since many of the Jedi remained alive post the Battle of Endor. So, it will be logical if Gungi meets his end in The Bad Batch Season 2.

It will also avoid creating more plot holes, such as explaining where Gungi is during the events of the sequel trilogy, especially since Wookiees survive for thousands of years. So, there’s a high chance that Gungi will be the first major death in The Bad Batch Season 2.
