The first teaser for Thunderbolts*, the movie that will wrap up Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been released by Marvel Studios.
The story will center on the titular group of heroes and antiheroes, and it will be directed by Jake Schreier with writing by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin. Many well-known characters from Marvel’s past are represented in the group, including Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
Lewis Pullman, who starred in Top Gun: Maverick, will join the Marvel universe with this project. Starring as Sentry, also known as Robert Reynolds, the actor embodies the dual personas of a villain and a superhero, often compared to Marvel’s Superman.
Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, is shown in the teaser going to see her father, Red Guardian (David Harbour), who seems to be going through a difficult time. Both characters are clearly seeking excitement and are unhappy with their current circumstances.
Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster are the antihero team members forming as the teaser unfolds. They are all fighting each other while also trying to understand what is happening to them.
According to the teaser, Sebastian Stan is back as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier. Bucky will first engage in conflict with the Thunderbolts before emerging as their unofficial leader.
When will Thunderbolts* hit the theaters?
There has been a lot of discussion over the last few Marvel phases regarding whether the superhero genre and the franchise are nearing their end. Wyatt Russell, star of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, doesn’t seem to think so.
The actor has stated that Thunderbolts*, his upcoming team-up film, is anything but “a straightforward Marvel movie” and that the time has come to make a good one. The actor will play John Walker, aka U.S. Agent, again.
The final Phase Five movie of the MCU, Thunderbolts*, is slated for release in the U.S. on May 5, 2025. Before that, on February 14, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World will reintroduce the MCU to the big screen, hopefully capitalizing on the box office triumph of Deadpool & Wolverine.
