Who are the Knights of the Zodiac as Zodiac Signs?

Knights of the Zodiac or “Saint Seiya” is perfect for Greek Mythology and Astrology junkies as the show fuses these elements and gives life to captivating characters with diverse storylines.

The Knights of the Zodiac are Saints who have sworn to protect Goddess Athena. They are associated with the twelve astrological signs of the zodiac with their own distinct powers.

Here’s a complete list of the Knights of the Zodiac as Zodiac Signs:

1. Capricorn Shura

Capricorn Shura was one of the Gold Saints, representing the zodiac sign Capricorn. He had been named after Asuras, a Sanskrit term for power-seeking demons.

He was one of the saints who knew about the true identity of the Gemini Saga and was manipulated to follow his orders, yet he remained loyal to Athena in the depths of his heart.

He had been trained since was 7 years old so he had a very high stamina in hand-to-hand combat, it was said that he could even fight for months.

Shura’s signature technique, Excalibur, lets him concentrate his Cosmo into a blade of energy just like the legendary sword Excalibur, slicing at the speed of light.

2. Aquarius Camus

Aquarius Camus was one of the Gold Saints aka the “Mage of water and ice” representing the Zodiac sign Aquarius. He was the guardian of the temple of Aquarius.

Camus maintained a stoic persona, but deep down he had a heart of gold and held his ideals highly. He was devoted to Athena.

His Cosmo energy is different from the other saints as he doesn’t create power, rather he freezes them and slows them down, giving him an upper hand. He had mastered the 7th sense and 8th sense.

Camus’s signature technique, Aurora Execution was the most powerful technique as it would freeze the opponent with a temperature as low as -273 ° C.

3. Pisces Aphrodite

Pisces Aphrodite was one of the Gold Saints, representing the Zodiac sign Pisces. He was known for his elegance, beauty, and battle prowess.

He was devoted to Athena and was one of the most feared saints as he would fight his opponents sadistically, because of this he was compared to Cancer Deathmask.

Aphrodite was like someone out of the Romantic era as he used roses in his attacks, such as his signature move, the Royal Demon Rose.

It would launch red roses and when the opponents would be struck by them, they would be poisoned by its thorns and smell.

What’s more, is that it brought a slow painful death until the opponent lost his senses and drifted to death.

4. Aries Mu

Aries Mu was one of the Gold Saints aka Mu of Jamir “the Cloth Blacksmith” as he repaired cloth’s earlier, he represented the Zodiac sign, Aries.

What makes Mu stand apart from the other Saints is that he has the strongest amount of innate psychic power. He was able to use his power deftly and could perform psychokinesis, teleportation, and control others at his command. 

He was an amiable level headed soldier and was the go-to man if any saint’s cloth had been at the brink of death, Mu would use about 1/3 of a person’s total blood supply along with mythical materials.

Mu’s signature technique, Crystal Wall involved the creation of a transparent barrier made out of psycho-power which was between him and his opponent.

It was the perfect defensive move as it would rebound the opponent’s attack back at them and was almost unshatterable.

5. Taurus Aldebaran

Taurus Aldebaran was one of the Gold Saints, representing the Zodiac sign Taurus. He was considered to be the strongest among the saints in terms of physical strength.

He derives his name from the giant star Aldebaran in the constellation of Taurus. However, in the video game Saint Seiya Online, it was revealed that Aldebaran originally went by the name Tiago and had Brazilian origins.

He was a giant with a big heart and was an avid learner. He had mastered the 7th Sense and learned to have full command over his Cosmo energy.

He made movements at the speed of light and his signature move was Great Horn, with which he would send two big waves of cosmos towards his opponents and pulverize them.

6. Gemini Saga

Gemini Saga was the first gold saint of the series, aka Pope Ares representing the zodiac sign Gemini.

Saga can zoom past at the speed of light and can paralyze his opponents and control their minds. His signature move was the Galaxian Explosion, which is capable of exploding galaxies.

Moreover, he could even warp time and space. His powers are outta this world.

Saga’s character is tragic and complex as he was the most noble knight protecting Athena. However, things took a turn for the worse when he got manipulated by Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld.

He developed a split personality with the evil side known as “Pope Ares” and wreaked havoc.

7. Cancer Deathmask

Cancer Deathmask was one of the Gold Saints, keeper of the temple of Cancer, representing the Zodiac sign Cancer. He was considered to be the cruelest and most ruthless among the Saints.

“Deathmask” was a nickname as it aligned with his dark nature. His real name is still unknown. “Cancer” couldn’t be more perfect for his Zodiac Sign.

He was sadistic when it came to dealing with his opponents and didn’t mind sacrificing people if it was for the greater cause, sounds like a rational man. He wasn’t devoted to ideals like the others.

Deathmask had mastered the 7th sense and could travel at the speed of light. He could even enter the Yomotsu Hirasaka or the land of the dead without being affected.

He would toss his enemies here, who would be drained of physical and spiritual strength, He was truly sadistic.

8. Leo Aiola

He was the younger brother of Sagittarius Aiolos, whose image had been tarnished as he had been labeled as a “traitor”.

However, as there are two sides to the coion, there is another side to this story, which we have mentioned in Sagittarius’s part.

Aiola worked really hard to prove his loyalty to Athena, he even dyed his hair red to be distinct from his brother.

Aiola became a a devout warrior of Athena, so strong that he was referred to as the reincarnation of the Iron-hearted man-slaying, Achilles.

Aiolia’s signature move, the Lightning Plasma, concentrates the Cosmo energy and shoots it light lightening that skewers his opponents.

9. Virgo Shaka

Virgo Shaka was one of the twelve Gold Saints, aka “The Man closest to God” representing the Zodiac sign Virgo. He was the reincarnation of Buddha.

He had embodied characteristics of Bhudda like being as tranquil as calm waters and used to meditate a lot.

Shaka had mastered not only the sixth sense but also the 7th and the 8th senses. It was so powerful that he sealed his eyesight and used it only to unleash his whole power.

Shaka’s signature move was the Tenbu Horin, he would paralyze his opponent’s senses aka Treasures of Heaven and Heaven’s dancing Dharma.

10. Libra Dohko

Libra Dohko was one of the Gold Saints, representing the Zodiac sign Libra. He was referred to as “Old Master”, because of his vast knowledge and experience.

He played the role of a mentor to the younger generation of Bronze Saints. He was a father figure to Shiryu.

Dohko could move at the speed of light as he had mastered the 7th sense. He even had telekinetic abilities as well as telepathy. Gemini Saga commended him as the strongest Saint.

Dohko’s signature move, Rozan Shoryu Ha aka Rising Dragon-Soaring

Wave would enable him to launch a punch or a kick powered with such energy that it was compared to a majestic Dragon-Soaring, hence the name.

11. Scorpio Milo

Scorpio Milo was one of the Gold Saints, representing the Zodiac sign Scorpio. He was the guardian of the Scorpius Temple. He was named after, Milos the volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea.

He was a valorous and hot-blooded warrior, who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He was chivalrous even with his opponents, as he gave them a choice to either surrender or plunge into insanity with pain.

Milo’s signature technique was the Scarlet Needle, which was impossible for his opponents to evade.

He would shoot crimson needles into 14 parts of his opponent’s bodies, who would get poisoned and slowly loose their 5 senses with agonizing pain.

Those needles would resemble a miniature outline of the Scorpius constellation, in modern times it’s safe to say that Milo would have been a great tattoo artist.

12. Sagittarius Aiolos

Sagittarius Aiolos was one of the Gold Saints, representing the Zodiac sign Sagittarius. He is named after the Greek god of Wind, Aeolus. He had a tragic death of a true hero, protecting his Goddess, Athena.

Aiolos had been branded as a “traitor” by Gemini Saga, whose evil side had taken over and he was envious of Aiolos.

The Grand Pope had chosen him as the new pope at the sanctuary to look after baby Athena. Saga killed the Grand Pope and was about to kill Athena as well.

That’s when Aiolos stepped in and rescued her, fleeing from the sanctuary, with this Saga had tarnished his image by labeling him a “traitor” who tried to kill Athena.

Since he was named after the God of the Winds, he has some dazzling lightning-related moves, for example, Lightning Plasma.

Saint Seiya, also known as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac or simply Knights of the Zodiac, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masami Kurumada.

The manga was adapted into an anime television series by Toei Animation that ran from 1986 to 1989, before being continued in the form of three original video animation series between 2002 and 2008.

The story follows five mystical warriors called the Saints who fight wearing sacred sets of armor named “Cloths”.

The Saints have sworn to defend the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth.
