In Episode 1 of The Book of Boba Fett, Fett and Fennec Shand take their first step in establishing themselves as the new crime lords of Tatooine. The episode provides two hints to the season’s main antagonists being the Crimson Dawn.
Here’s a refresher: Crimson Dawn is a crime syndicate which was spearheaded by Darth Maul/Sith Lord Maul. Although Maul seemed to meet his demise in a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, he is believed to be alive, as depicted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
However, Maul is no longer Crimson Dawn’s leader since Lady Qi’ra has taken control.
Now, in The Book of Boba Fett Episode 1, Fett is patrolling around Tatooine to let everyone he will be taking over from Jabba the Hutt. It is here where he and Shand are attacked by assassins using energy shields and electric batons.
Their identity isn’t revealed, but their uniform is quite telling—mud red suits with black hoods, a signature get-up of the Crimson Dawn.
If this wasn’t a (visual) tease enough, the episode’s score also points to the Crimson Dawn. The crime syndicate’s theme song has been intertwined with the theme track of The Book of Boba Fett, thanks to the creative genius of composer Ludwig Göransson.
Seeing how the assassins’ identity is shrouded in mystery, the show could be going for a grand reveal, especially because Fett assuming charge of Tatooine cannot be this easy. Plus, Crimson Dawn would make quite the formidable enemy!
But I wouldn’t expect Maul to make an appearance. If anything, it will be Fett facing off Qi’ra. Now that Jabba’s position is vacant, both parties will fight to assert dominance. (Would this mean we might get to see Emilia Clarke, who played Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story? Someone say yes!)
The Book of Boba Fett Episode 2 will premiere on January 5.
