In the last three seasons of The Umbrella Academy, we have seen numerous characters die in the most brutal ways. In fact, at the end of season 1, the entire planet was destroyed. But thanks to Number Five, he altered the events and people were revived.

1. Season 3
In season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, we see the following characters die:

After Christopher, Sloane, Lila, and Viktor successfully stop the Kugelblitz, Christopher suddenly shakes and obliterates into countless pieces. This was because a new Kugelblitz formed within him. When this happened, the energy released was so strong that it killed off Fei because she was near him.
II. Do Alphonso and Jayme die in The Umbrella Academy season 3?
Alphonso and Jayme die at the end of episode 3. This is when the Sparrows enter Hotel Obsidian to attack the Umbrellas. Harlan arrives here and releases a strong energy blast. Due to this, the Sparrows are knocked off. While the rest of them survive, Alphonso and Jayme instantly die.
III. Does Marcus die in The Umbrella Academy season 3?
Marcus was the first character to die in season 3. When the Umbrellas and Sparrows meet, he decides to have a conversation with Viktor to hold peace between the two groups. However, later on, Marcus goes to the basement of the Umbrellas Academy and finds the Kugelblitz. Just as he touches it, he’s torn apart.
Other deaths include Grace, Reginald Hargreeves, Harlan, Luther, Klaus, and more. However, all the Umbrella siblings that die are resurrected in the new timeline. Furthermore, Reginald and his wife were alive too. The problem was that the Hargreeves siblings had lost their superpowers.
Furthermore, the Sparrows were the main characters that didn’t appear in the new timeline. At the show’s end, we see Ben traveling to Seoul on a train, but we don’t know from which timeline he’s from. Season 4 would most likely build upon these two aspects and use them as subplots.
2. Season 2
In season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, we see the following characters die:

- AJ Carmichael
- Carl Cooper
- Hazel
- Agnes
I. Does The Handler die in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
The Handler was supposedly dead in season 1, but she returned in season 2 and became the main villain for the second installment. While her impact wasn’t significant in season 1, she compensated for it in season 2.
She was responsible for the murders of several Swedes, The Commission, and even the entire Umbrella Academy except for Five. In the end, she is ironically killed by one of the Swede assassins who held The Handler responsible for the deaths of his comrades.
II. Does AJ Carmichael die in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
In season 2, AJ revealed that The Handler was the person behind Five’s mission to kill Lila’s parents. AJ said this to Lila to give her clarity while establishing who the main villain of the season was.
However, in episode 9, The Handler discovers this and decides to swallow him. This way, he wouldn’t be able to say anything to The Commission, and she could easily become its head.
III. Does Carl Cooper die in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
Harlan accidentally kills Carl Cooper. When his wife Sissy decides to run away with Vanya (Now Viktor), he grabs a gun and shoots at her. Harlan, while running with his mother, activates his powers almost instinctively and deflects the bullet back to Carl. Essentially Carl got shot by the same bullet he fired and met his end.
IV. Do Hazel and Agnes die in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
Hazel is killed off by one of the Swedes after he warns Five of an apocalypse as instructed by Agnes. We don’t see Agnes die, but Hazel mentions that she succumbed to cancer after the two spent 20 years together.
Resetting the timeline and bringing back characters is one of The Umbrella Academy’s signature moves. Whenever the writers feel pushed into a corner, they bring back a character, and the pattern might get a little boring for some people. In season 2, the complete Umbrella Academy is killed, but they come back to life because of Five’s actions, as he resets the timeline.
3. Season 1
In season 1 of The Umbrella Academy, we see the following characters die:
- Harold Jenkins
- Pogo
- Cha-Cha
I. Does Harold Jenkins die in The Umbrella Academy season 1?
Harold Jenkins is the main villain in season 1. He was born on the same day as the other siblings from the Academy, but he wasn’t exactly their brother because he had a normal birth.
Due to not fitting in, he decided to take revenge against the rest of his siblings. However, when he encounters Viktor, he ends up killing him due to her uncontrollable fury that manifests as energy blasts.
II. Does Pogo die in The Umbrella Academy season 1?
Pogo was perhaps one of the sweetest characters and a caretaker of the Umbrellas. However, Viktor didn’t see him that way. He saw the chimp as someone who could’ve prevented the siblings’ misery when they were young. But Pogo just stood by and watched Reginald Hargreeves torture them. So, Viktor blasts the chimp away and impales him on a moose’s head.
III. Does Cha-Cha die in The Umbrella Academy season 1?
Cha-Cha was a time-traveling assassin who worked with the Temps Commission we saw in season 2. She and Hazel were supposed to prevent Number Five from stopping the apocalypse.
While Number Five couldn’t prevent the apocalypse, he sure did save all his siblings by dropping them at different points in time. She’s killed by Viktor, who unleashes her powers and becomes the White Violin. When Viktor causes the apocalypse, Cha-Cha dies in it.
Season 1 had much fewer deaths compared to season 3. You could say that humanity was eradicated, but after the alteration in the timeline, people came back. So nobody was gone for good. However, the above characters’ arcs came to a tragic end.
