Every Minecraft Video Game Character Confirmed For The Live-Action Movie

A Minecraft Movie brings the sandbox video game world to life on the big screen, with a few recognizable faces confirmed to appear. The 2025 film is a live-action adaptation of the 2011 best-selling video game. The original games’ sandbox gameplay is creativity-driven, and as a result, there are fewer characters overall.

That has always made creating a Minecraft movie a fascinating decision since it would necessitate developing a plot and establishing mostly new characters to be at the head of the cast.

However, this does not mean that the live-action Minecraft movie has no characters from the video games. Viewers will see familiar characters and mobs (mobile entities) from the Minecraft series next to Jason Momoa and his co-stars.

This includes popular characters within the world of Minecraft, which is known as the Overworld.

1. Steve- Played by Jack Black

Steve is the closest thing Minecraft has to a main character, as he has become the most well-known player avatar throughout the series’ history. Markus Persson created Steve, which he first built in 2009.

He has become one of Minecraft’s nine default skins, with his blue shirt and pants defining his appearance.

However, there is no official backstory for him in the games. This leaves him a blank slate regarding A Minecraft Movie bringing Steve to life in real action.

Jack Black is responsible for playing Steve in A Minecraft Movie. In the movie, Steve looks like Jack Black as a normal human instead of retaining the game’s blocky design. He does have a blue shirt on, which retains some elements of the video game design.

But, it is unclear if Steve is a native of Overworld who is an expert crafter or if he is a human who has been trapped in the new dimension for years and harnessed various skills this way. A Minecraft Movie will reveal much more about Steve than the video games ever did.

2. Pilgins-The Antagonists

The Piglins are one of Minecraft’s largest groupings of mob characters. They are naturally neutral in this universe, but depending on the conditions, they might be passive or aggressive to players.

In the games, wearing just one piece of gold armor prevents Piglins from attacking. Piglins vary in size and aggravation level. Piglin Brutes are larger, stronger, and more aggressive members of the species. A Minecraft Movie features both standard and brutal Piglins.

The role that the Piglins will play in A Minecraft Movie is bound to be more antagonistic.

They are mentioned as some of the “evil things” that the human characters encounter in Overworld.

Their natural hell-like dimension of The Nether is also confirmed to factor into the movie, providing a tease to the hostility that the Piglins could pose to the characters in the main storyline.

3. Creeper- The Jason Mamoa Surprise

A Minecraft Movie’s confirmed video game characters include Creeper. The sneaky and popular mob characters were confirmed for a role through A Minecraft Movie’s trailer and a glimpse of one sneaking up behind Jason Momoa’s character.

Creepers are incredibly dangerous mobs in the games, as they silently get behind a character and then explode. They become even more powerful and dangerous if they are struck by lightning.

The Creepers’ participation in a Minecraft movie is unlikely to be significant. They will most likely be mobs that pose risks to the main protagonists and threaten to blow them up if they remain unaware of their surroundings.

The fascinating development will be to watch how many Creepers are present in Overworld in A Minecraft Movie, as they are common in the game but have a limited amount of surface occupancy.

4. Ghasts- The Big, Sad Jellyfish-Looking Creatures

Ghasts are another Minecraft mob creature confirmed to appear in A Minecraft Movie. They are easily identifiable mobs that resemble massive ghost-like jellyfish that can fly.

They are pale in color, have numerous tentacles beneath them, and can fly through the air. In video games, Ghasts can also launch fireballs that are powerful enough to kill players if they are hit.

To some extent, the Ghasts’ role in the world has changed due to the Minecraft movie. While the design is quite similar to the games, the Piglins use them as a mode of transportation.

With chains tied around them to convey the Piglins, the aimless creatures gain a new purpose in the film. It is unclear if they are working with the Piglins voluntarily or as part of a broader evil agenda in the Overworld.

5. Zombies-  Evil Mods

Zombies are another common feature of the Minecraft video game universe. These undead hostile mobs are best known for attacking players collectively rather than individually. They do not utilize weapons and only have melee powers.

Although the Zombies have been confirmed to appear in A Minecraft Movie, they have yet to be officially announced. This renders their purpose in the film and its plot a mystery, aside from providing a dilemma for the main protagonists as they journey through the Overworld.

The film may feature a variety of zombies, including villagers, babies, desert husks, and people who have drowned in the river.

6. Sheep- A Rare Version Of The Mob

It has been revealed that the sheep from the video games will appear in the movie Minecraft. Sheep are innocuous mobs that allow players to craft resources such as wool and meat.

Sheep in the games comes in six colors: white, black, gray, light gray, brown, and pink. While they are primarily aimless animals that roam freely throughout Overworld, they will follow players and can be seen in small groups.

The appearance of sheep in A Minecraft Movie is particularly noticeable for its hue. Pink sheep are the rarest type in the game, with less than a one percent chance of having pink wool.

But, one will still be featured in the live-action movie through the CGI creations.

7. Llamas

Llamas appear in A Minecraft Movie. In the games, llamas are neutral mobs that players can tame. They are useful for moving huge objects and have llama spit, exactly like in real life, however it can kill players in Minecraft.

The animals may also be utilized for breeding. There are also uncommon variations of the animal known as the trader llama.

It is unclear what function the llamas will have in The Minecraft Movie. It is known that one will come across a bunch of Piglin and not be intimidated by the raging army that nearly killed it with an arrow. They could eventually become a source of comedy in the last act.

8. Wolves- The Last Animal Mob

A wolf is another neutral mob in Minecraft that appears in the live-action movie. Players can tame them and then employ them to battle other hostile mobs.

Wolves can be bred after they have been tamed. In Minecraft, animals can teleport to the player if there is too much distance between them and a few other criteria are not met.

The wolf in A Minecraft Movie has no known role in the tale. It has only been spotted howling at the moon at night, so it is unclear whether it has been tamed.

It will be left for the movie to reveal more about what the wolves do in the movie and if they are animals that will scare or help the human characters and Steve.

9. Is This Enderman In Minecraft?

The glowing purple eyes make us wonder, too.

Enderman has not yet been confirmed for A Minecraft Movie, although there are indications that he will play a role in the tale. First and foremost, Enderman is the name of a tall mob from video games that can appear in any dimension of Overworld.

He’s typically depicted with an all-black body and purple glowing eyes. Enderman is also associated with the dimension known as The End and the famed Ender Dragon, a powerful beast with some comparable features.

No character in A Minecraft Movie looks exactly like Enderman in the computer game, although the Piglin army includes a shorter, presumably hooded, black figure with purple eyes. This can be seen in the image above, taken from the trailer for A Minecraft Movie, at the 40-second point.

This character looks to be clutching a staff of some type and is staring squarely at a human character who has discovered the Piglin lair in The Nether. Because Piglin has reddish-orange eyes, the purple eyes seen here are distinctive and familiar to Enderman.

It is feasible that A Minecraft Movie may transform Enderman, the neutral mob character from the games, into something closer to a final boss or overarching villain for the series.

The movie adaptation needs to create a main enemy for the tale from the limited video game history in some way, and Enderman makes sense as a starting point. Even if it isn’t the end of the story, the person with the purple glowing eyes amid the Piglin implies that Enderman will play a significant role in A Minecraft Movie.

10. About A Minecraft Movie

The film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
