Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been out for some time now, and players are giving their opinions on the choices made by the developers. The game features a highly detailed single-player campaign as well as multiplayer maps, gorgeous environments, beautiful lighting, and foliage, adding to the immersive experience of this fantastic first-person shooter.
Whether you love the new multiplayer maps or hate them, they provide a much-needed respite for the community. Currently, Modern Warfare 2 features ten maps for traditional 6v6 matches and four additional maps for the Ground War/Invasion game mode.
So, I have decided to put together a list of the best maps of MW2. This list reflects my personal opinions all the while taking the opinions of the community at large into consideration as well.
So, here are my top 5 picks for MW2’s best maps.
5 Mercado La Almas
Mercado La Almas, which means the ‘Soul Market’, is a map located in Mexico. The map features a market and follows a 3-lane structure for players to push.
The map is not that big, which makes it perfect for 6v6. It was first introduced in the beta, and thus, most of the players are now fairly familiarised with various key points on the map to secure the win.
It is a fast-paced map that features a long central lane, which is perfect for snipers to pick off players, The map also features a ‘crossroad’ where all the lanes combine right in the center of the map which makes it an ideal place for a bloodbath.
Players who are keen on surviving are advised to stick to the sides.
What makes this map great? A good map for objective-based modes, a long central lane ideal for sniping, features both long-range as well as close-quarters combat, ideal for fast-paced gameplay.
4 Farm 18
Farm 18 is more of a factory rather than a farm. The map features big open areas perfect for middle to long-range engagements and sniping.
There is a cement factory on the map which serves as the central building and has an open roof. This makes it a perfect spot for a sniper’s nest. But all those great sights come at the cost of exposure, as being on the roof makes you very visible and very vulnerable.
The map was also introduced during the beta and, thus, most of the players are already quite familiar with it.
What makes this map great? Open areas, good sniping spot, features both close-quarters as well as range combat, feels like a traditional CoD map.
3 Embassy
The Embassy is not your typical CoD map. It does not follow a lane structure like other maps. Instead, the map is predominantly focused on close-quarters combat.
The map features a multi-level US Embassy with lots of corridors and rooms, and very little exterior. It is perfect for close-quarters combat, making SMGs and Shotguns the best weapon choice.
The map can create some great tense moments due to its tightness, and features some great choke points that are essential to be controlled to win.
Despite the map being so tight, it still gives players the option to use snipers if they want and to make use of the balcony to overlook the map. You can also set yourself up on the exterior parts of the map and look down the central corridor to pick off enemies.
What makes this map great? Heavy focus on close-quarter combat, breaks the monotony by not following lane structures, corridors, rooms, and various floor levels, making every turn quite unexpected and refreshing.
2 Breenbergh Hotel
Breenbergh Hotel is a map located in Amsterdam. The map is one of the best maps in CoD: MW2 due to the fact that it allows for various kinds of play styles.
The map features both an open area and buildings, which makes the combat feel fluid and dynamic, as you need to constantly change tactics to stay on top.
The map is well-made and caters to players with all types of play styles. Both snipers and SMGs/Assault Rifles are excellent weapon choices for the map.
What makes this map great? Great well-balanced map, enjoyable for everyone irrespective of weapon choice, open areas allow for aerial kill strikes while enclosed areas provide cover.
1 Crown Raceway
Crown Raceway is the best map in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It is a beautiful map that allows the players to fight on a racetrack. It features two long sight lines, out of which one is almost unobstructed, thus making it a dream come true for all the snipers out there.
The other line features several buildings which help in short to medium-range engagements. The map can feel big for 6v6 but in my opinion, it is of the perfect size.
The map also features a lot of noise distractions, such as the running engines of F1 cars which the players can use for their benefit and sneak up on their enemies.
What makes this map great? Excellent map for both short and long-range engagements, features noise distraction to easily sneak up on your enemies, and follows a familiar lane structure without feeling monotonous.
