Glintstone Key Location Guide: Where to find it in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring is a single-player open-world RPG with over 40 hours of storyline to play through. During the campaign gameplay, you will come across the closed main gate of the Academy of Raya Lucaria, which can only be unlocked using a Glintstone key.

You can find a map to the Glintstone key on a corpse nearby, but this map is too vague to understand, making it almost impossible to track the location of the key. But fear not, as I have brought you this simple guide to finding the Glinstone key.

Vague Map Glintstone key

The Glintstone Key can be found near the Temple Quarter of Liurnia Lake, located to the West of Raya Lucaria Academy in Elden Ring.

Refer to the map below for the exact location of the Glintstone key.

After reading the map, head to the west from the southern gate of the Raya Lucaria Academy and keep walking until you reach the end of the island. Once there, take a right and walk towards the north. After walking for a while, you will come across a dragon sleeping under a giant rock to your left.

“The Glintstone Dragon, Smarag,” is a tough but optional boss in Elden Ring. You can find the Glintstone key on a sorcerer’s corpse behind Smarag. You can choose to either defeat Smarag or sneak past him to get the key. I recommend you to go for the latter option as it’s the faster and easier way to get the job done.

Collect the Glintstone Key

After acquiring the Glintstone key, fast travel back to the Raya Lucaria Academy and open the gate to progress ahead in your quest to become the Elden Lord.

How to beat The Glintstone Dragon, Smarag, in Elden Ring?

The Glintstone Dragon, Smarag, can be defeated easily at level 45 by dodging his recurring attacks and draining his health slowly while riding a mount.

Note: It is recommended to fight Smarag at level 45 with a +3 weapon, but he can also be defeated at lower levels with weaker weapons.

It may look like a massive task, but dragons in Elden Ring are highly predictable. In the case of Smarag, keep your distance and dodge all of his same 5-6 repeating attacks, then strike him during the small window after his every attack.

Smarag will use his tail as a whip to knock you out and breathe “fire” to drain your health at a fast rate, but all of this can be easily dodged if you are fighting on a mount from a distance. He will also fly occasionally and try to stomp you, so try to run away from him when he is mid-air and strike him hard once he lands.

Keep chipping away at his health, and Smarag will eventually drop dead rewarding you with a Dragon Heart, which can be used at the Church of Dragon Communion to unlock powerful Dragon Powers.
