As one of the most well-known Magical Beasts in the Harry Potter universe, it’s no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy allows players to find and rescue Hippogriffs. Players wanting to do this for themselves will first need to find Hippogriffs out in the wild, which will require going quite away from Hogwarts school grounds.
Players should ensure they have completed “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom” for Deek before trying to rescue a Hippogriff. This will grant them the ability to use the Nab-sack to recover Magical Beasts. Then it’s just a matter of finding the majestic creatures.
With the front half of an eagle and the back half of a horse, rescuing this fierce beast can be challenging.
Where to Find Hippogriff Dens?
Five Hippogriff Dens are on the world map in Hogwarts Legacy, each containing two Hippogriffs.
I. In the Center of the Forbidden Forest.
The earliest Hippogriff Den you can find is located in the center of the Forbidden Forest.
II. Northeast of The Mine’s Eye Floo Station
From the Mine’s Eye Floo station, which is found in the southern area of the Hogwarts Valley region, head Northeast.
III. On the hill Northeast of Feldcroft
Head Northeast from Feldcroft town. It is nearby the Floo Station.
IV. Poidsear area, near the western coast
Head southwest from the Poidsear Castle Floo Station to reach the Hippogriff Den.
V. Next to the castle ruins south of the Southern Coast Manor
Head south from the West Manor Cape Floo station until you see a ruined castle.
Rescuing Hippogriffs and Getting Hippogriff Features
Hippogriffs are one of the hardest Magical Beasts to rescue in Hogwarts Legacy. These creatures can run fast, fly if they choose, and require impressive five-button presses to rescue them.
This is next to impossible without using Levioso or Arresto Momentum. Players can also rescue a shiny Hippogriff, denoted by the star next to the gender marker, which is black in color. Brushing and feeding a Hippogriff rewards players with three Hippogriff feathers.
If players want to clear out their inventory quickly, they can always release extra Hippogriffs back out to the wild. Hippogriffs sell for 120 Galleons at the Brood and Peck, the same price a Puffskein would pay.
Suppose players choose to let Hippogriffs out in the Vivarium. In that case, they should consider using the Toy Chest Spellcraft to conjure up a Dark Wizard Dummy. It is the favorite toy of the Hippogriff and Hogwarts Legacy’s Graphorn Magical Beast.
How to Unlock the Hippogriff Mount
The main quest line must progress quickly before reaching “The High Keep” quest.
Natty sends you an Owl Post stating she wants to find evidence of Harlow and Rookwood’s criminal activities. You will see Highwing being dragged into the keep once you meet Natty there, which activates the ultimate quest.
Climb to the top of the High Keep, and Highwing and another Hippogriff will be chained there. Releasing them from their bindings, you and Natty make your escape by riding the Hippogriffs into the clouds.
These mounts will be unlocked when you land. Highwing will now be stored in your nab-sack until placed in your vivarium. They will be summonable the next time you want to ride. Even if your mount is in Vivarium, it can still be summoned.
For those who pre-ordered Hogwarts Legacy, the Onyx Hippogriff mount bonus will also be placed in your nab-sack.
