Tallnecks are massive information relay ‘towers’ or communications machines in Horizon Forbidden West that can easily be seen from afar. Climbing and overriding a Tallneck eliminates the fog on that particular map section and provides a clear overview of the location.
There are six (6) Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West in the following locations:
- Cinnabar Sands
- The Stillsands
- The Stand of the Sentinels
- Landfall
- The Shining Wastes
- Salt Bite
1 Tallneck Location – Cinnabar Sands
The first Tallneck can be found in the eastern region of the map between Stone’s Echo and Plainsong after completing the Death’s Door main quest in Horizon Forbidden West.
Spotting this Tallneck is easy while roaming in the desert, but it takes some effort to override it. First of all, you need to climb up the satellite dish nearby until you reach the console. The console needs the power to move the dish. Look for the power cell on the lower level by climbing down the stairs next to the console.
Once you take out the power cell, drop down at the bottom and insert it into the generator.
Now, climb back up and interact with the console. The dish will now start moving, but some wires hold it back. So, climb to the very top and break the wires holding the satellite dish using your bow and arrow.
After releasing the dish, climb on top of it and glide to the Tallneck. You need to time this perfectly.
Once you are on top of the Tallneck, interact with the glowing light in the center to override it.
2 Tallneck Location – The Stillsands
The second Tallneck can be found near a small campsite south of Camp Nowhere and about 1,200 meters south of The Base in Horizon Forbidden West.
Once you arrive at the location, interact with the Oseram corpses at the central camp to initiate a small objective of taking down the Tallneck. Fire the Ballista here on the weak spots of the Tallneck highlighted with blue color.
Use the Ballistas in souther and easter ruins to shoot two more anchors into the Tallneck and bring it down. Once it’s down, climb onto it and override it.
3 Tallneck Location – The Stand of the Sentinels
The third Tallneck can be found during the Seeds of the Past story quest. It is located in a forest on the west coast of Cliffwatch.
Overriding this Tallneck requires good parkour skills. Make your way up through the platform on the trees by climbing, grappling, and gliding.
When you are high enough on the trees to reach the Tallneck, make a precise jump onto it and override it.
4 Tallneck Location – Landfall
The Landfall Tallneck will be available during Faro’s Tomb story quest. It is submerged in the bay in the southeastern portion of the island.
Once you reach the coast, swim to the offline Tallneck and scan it to find out that its two mechanical parts are missing.
Now, swim to the two Glinthawk nests on the ruins in the north and collect the two missing Tallneck parts from the scrap pile. Bring the parts back and insert them into the Tallneck.
The Tallneck will now be up and running. To override it, swim to the nearby ruins, jump onto the Tallneck, and climb up its neck to reach the top.
5 Tallneck Location – The Shining Wastes
The fifth Tallneck can be found 1,080 meters southwest of The Base in the Shining Wastes region, west of the Tenakth village of Arrowhand in Horizon Forbidden West.
Overriding this Tallneck is a crucial part of the second last story quest, “The Wings of the Ten.” Start this main quest to activate the Tallneck automatically.
6 Tallneck Location – Salt Bite
The sixth and the secret Tallneck is located in the extreme northern portion of the map and can be found during ‘Cauldron: IOTA.’ It is just northeast of Salt Bite and northwest of Plainsong.
This Tallneck will not be visible on the map like the others. During the Cauldron, you have to repair this Tallneck and override it. Once completed, you will be elevated back onto the ground along with the Tallneck.
