WandaVision has been one of Marvel’s most intriguing and most well-kept secret projects in recent years. Ever since the story was introduced to the fans, they have been confused about the plot of the series and have been waiting in wide-eyed anticipation for its premiere. Rather than putting out the fire, the multiple trailers released by Marvel has only intensified the confusion.
Timelines being very important in the Marvel movies, the primary question in the fans’ minds is how Wanda and Vision’s story fits into the MCU timeline, especially how it relates to the Infinity Saga. Is it a prequel to the Avengers: Endgame or something new altogether?
Well, it’s a bit of both.
1.Why it’s Post-Endgame
For one, Disney has confirmed that the show takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Not much can be understood from the first two episodes of the series since Wanda and Vision are in what is possibly an alternate dimension, living a life similar to characters in a 50s sitcom.
However, we know that Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) from the Thor movies and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), from the Ant-Man movies, are reprising their roles in WandaVision, which can only mean that the show is set in a time after Tony Stark’s snap.
Another clue to the timeline of WandaVision is provided by the character Monica Rambeau (Teyonnah Parris). Rambeau was introduced as a child in Captain Marvel, which is a prequel to all the Avengers movies. In the comics, Rambeau becomes Captain Marvel after Carol Danvers. In WandaVision, she is seen as a 30-something, who is possibly an agent of S.W.O.R.D.
The change in Rambeau’s age is a sign that WandaVision takes place after Endgame.
2.Why it Might Be Something Else
Vision being alive is throwing the fans into confusion. He was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos had ripped the Mind Stone out of his head and had killed him. Later, when Tony Stark sacrificed himself with a Snap, Vision was not brought back from the dead.
Is Vision just a simulation in Wanda’s head? Is he just a part of the big bad’s plan in messing with Wanda’s powers? Or is he really alive?
He sure seems made of flesh and blood, er, synthetic material, in the first two episodes of the series. The Mind Stone is also present on his forehead.
Chances are that WandaVision, similar to Spider-Man: Far from Home- is set after the Snap but in an alternate world, separate from the world in which the Avengers fought their battles.
Whether Vision will be resurrected outside of the alternate dream world remains to be uncovered. It is one of the central mysteries of WandaVision and will be addressed in the latter part of the season.
