After the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi series, the iconic franchise is back with a brand new open-world game from a galaxy far, far away. Announced during the Xbox livestream on June 11 this year, the development of Outlaws is being helmed by Ubisoft.
Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming brand new open-world game, set in the vast universe of Star Wars. The game is currently under development and is set to release sometime in 2024. Its gameplay was officially revealed at Ubisoft Forward 2023.

1. What is the story of Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws follows the story of Kay Vess, who’s described as “an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life”. The game will feature criminal underworlds of the Outer Rim. She will have a small alien companion, Nix, and a droid named ND-5.
The World Premier trailer for Star Wars Outlaws shows Kay Vess being confronted in a bar by some thugs, leading to an escape. The trailer indicates that Kay will risk everything to pull off the biggest heist she’s ever done to escape the life of crime and walk free.
2. How will gameplay work in Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws will be a third-person open-world shooter, putting players in the shoes of Kay Vess, an outlaw seeking freedom. The game will feature player choices which will have consequences and impact the story significantly. Stealth will be heavily used in the game as well.
From the gameplay walkthrough, we can see that Kay’s Blaster has a heat overload system along with three modes: Blaster, Focused and Stun. Her small companion, Nix, will be used to distract guards, much like Cal Kestis’ trusty droid BD-1 in the Star Wars Jedi series.
The game will feature Speeders for players to traverse through the open-world planets and combat enemies. The gameplay trailer shows that players can fully control the Trailblazer from the surface directly into space and travel to different planets using Hyperdrive. It can be used for dogfights as well. Akiva has been confirmed to be one of the playable open-world planets.
The existence of a workbench also indicates that weapons, spaceship and Kay’s gear can be upgraded. This is similar to how Cal upgraded his Lightsaber from a workbench.
3. When does Star Wars Outlaws take place?
According to Ubisoft, Star Wars Outlaws takes place between the Original Trilogy, which is between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Perhaps we’ll get a new perspective of the Rebellion’s battle against the Empire.
We may also see some familiar faces from the Original Trilogy in the game as it takes place when the battle between the Rebellion and the Empire was intense. However, don’t be surprised if Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader don’t show up in the game, as it is completely focused on the criminal underworld on the Outer Rim rather than the battle between Jedis and the Siths.
4. Which platforms is Star Wars Outlaws releasing on?
Star Wars Outlaws is set to release sometime in 2024. The game will launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. The official release date of the game as well as the price of the game has not been revealed.
If we go by the price of the latest AAA Star Wars game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, then you can expect the price to be around $69.99. It is unknown how many special editions of the game will be released or if there will even be a special edition.
