I know I had you at Seinfeld as you read the title. As a die-hard fan, I know you think it’s the best sitcom show ever. It’s better than Friends and The Office, yada yada yada. Well, I know you’ve been dying to hear that reference and perhaps many more since there’s no place to stream Seinfeld for the past month. However, we’ve got news for you, and there’s Netflix involved.
Seinfeld is soon coming to Netflix. Though Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, theories and rumors suggest that the show will launch on Netflix in September 2021 at the earliest.
In 2019 Netflix announced that it has bought the global rights to the cult-classic show Seinfeld from Sony. The show ran from 1989 to 1999 for about a decade and is considered one of the best Sitcoms of all time. Even today, it is a significant part of American culture.
After being available on Hulu for streaming for the last 5 years, its tenure ended on June 23, 2021. However, it didn’t immediately start streaming on Netflix, and the streaming giant hasn’t announced a release date either. According to Vulture, industry insiders believe that the series might not premiere on Netflix until closer to fall and might launch in September 2021 at the earliest.
But why the delay? As the report by Vulture mentions, two theories could justify this.
The licensing deal of the streaming rights doesn’t let Netflix stream Seinfeld until a specific date. This is the first proposed theory.
The second one is that Netflix might be trying to hype up the series by building the thirst for the show. Since the show isn’t up for streaming on any platform, fans might feel the longing to watch this show. When the buzz around the show is at its peak, Netflix could launch the epic sitcom and instantly get the maximum possible viewership.
The second theory does make a lot of sense. As put forth by Netflixlife.com, something similar happened with Friends and HBO. The global pop culture phenomenon was set to release on HBO Max after it left Netflix. However, it debuted on the new streaming platform only after five months, and fans immediately rushed to catch their favorite episodes.
The show will release when it releases, but for now, we know that it’ll be available in all regions across the globe, and we all can stream all 180 episodes spanning 9 seasons.
Well, whatever the reason for the delay may be, I just want to resume watching the show’s episode in random order and laugh my heart out so that I can finally say Serenity Now!
