When will Pokemon SV get Pokemon HOME? Compatible Pokemon, and More

Pokemon HOME is a cloud-based service for the official Pokemon games playable on mobile and Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon HOME is the only way for players to gather all the Pokemon they’ve ever caught from previous games and versions. They can also trade them with other players and complete the Pokedex to prove that they can indeed catch ‘em all!

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will get Pokemon HOME in Spring, 2023. Once the compatibility between the new Generation 9 games and Pokemon HOME is active, players can transfer their Paldean Pokemon to their account, and also bring select Pokemon from their collection to Paldea.

1. Can I transfer all my Pokemon to Scarlet and Violet with Pokemon HOME?

You can transfer your Pokemon from previous generations to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet provided they are compatible and available as a part of the Paldean Pokedex.

The Pokemon you will be able bring to Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet through your Pokemon HOME account are limited to Pokemon that are otherwise obtainable in the current generation.

This means you might not be able to bring your whole OP Pokemon team into Scarlet and Violet.

While it would be nice to bring all Pokemon companions from the past games to Paldea, it’s understandable why this isn’t possible. There are around 400 Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet and over 1000 Pokemon in the national Pokedex.

This includes many exclusive and region-specific Pokemon. It wouldn’t make sense for players to bring other region-specific Pokemon to Paldea, when Paldea itself has so many region-specific ‘mons, especially the Tera type Pokemon that you can catch in Scarlet as well as Violet.

2. Which select Pokemon can I bring to Scarlet and Violet with Pokemon HOME?

The Johto, Unova, and Alola Starters will likely be available to transfer as paid downloadable content (DLC). Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott, the Starters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, are available in Paldea in their normal and Hisuian forms, so it’s probable that other Starters will be compatible.

Kanto and Hoenn Starters may be available too, especially now that Ash and Pikachu will no longer be the main characters in the main series.

Apart from favorites and Starters, players are desperate to combine their Shiny Pokemon collection. Imagine how great Shiny Groudon, Shiny Gallade, Shiny Breloom, Shiny Greninja, Shiny Zacian and the rest will look alongside Tera Pokemon.

If Legendary Pokemon are compatible – along with other Starters and Shinys – Pokemon Scarlet and Violet might just become the best gaming experience to date.

However, players might not be able to bring Pokemon with maxed out move-sets or levels and special features to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet because it might tip the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet metagame. With the open-world gameplay style, the Gen 9 story and Tera type feature might not have room for unique moves.

For example, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has let go of the Dynamax and Gigantamax feature in favor of the Terastal Phenomenon. This means that if you have Pokemon with Z-moves or G-max moves, you can’t use them in Scarlet and Violet.

Apart from this, you can move, view, and trade your collected Pokemon from other games, view detailed information about your ‘mons, including moves and abilities, complete the national Pokedex, receive Mystery Gifts, and more.

Certain features are added or removed depending on which version of Pokemon HOME you have. There is a free and a paid version, with different kinds of premium plan pricings.

4. Is Pokemon HOME linked to Pokemon GO?

Yes, Pokemon HOME is linked to Pokemon GO. Pokemon HOME supports connectivity with mobile as well as Nintendo Switch Pokemon games. Pokemon GO is playable on Android and iOS, and the mobile app version of Pokemon HOME can be linked to it.

You can link your Nintendo account to both, the Nintendo Switch version and the mobile version of Pokemon HOME, which will give you access to all your Pokemon.

Pokemon from Pokemon GO, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus are compatible with Pokemon HOME.

In the spring of this year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be integrated to Pokemon HOME as well.

5. How to download Pokemon HOME for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Pokemon HOME is available ono the Nintendo eShop as well as on the App Store and on Google Play.

If you are playing Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet on Nintendo Switch, go to the Switch home screen and select the Nintendo eShop. Ensure that you are logged in to your Nintendo account, then select the profile you want to use and then simply search for HOME and download it.

If you’re using an Apple device, launch App Store and if you’re using an Android, go to Google Play. Simply tap on Download, and Pokemon HOME will be ready for use on your device.

Of course, you will have to wait at least until March 2023 for Pokemon HOME to be compatible with Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.
