Summary
- Napoleon will debut exclusively on Apple TV+ for online streaming after its theatrical run.
- No release date has been specified for Napoleon’s streaming debut yet.
As Ridley Scott’s historical drama Napoleon continues its theatrical run, the anticipation for its online release is high. The film will eventually be available for online streaming after its theatrical run.
Napoleon is based on the life and times of French military general and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was known for his ruthless ambition and dominance over European politics in the post-French Revolution era.
The film covers most of the important events of his life, including his first and second exile, his marriage to Josephine and Marie Louise, and the Battle of Waterloo that led to his defeat.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon and an ensemble cast including Vanessa Kirby as Empress Joséphine, Mark Bonnar as Jean-Andoche Junot, Youssef Kerkour as Marshal Davout, and Rupert Everett as Arthur Wellesley.
Napoleon is set to release on Apple TV+ after the end of its theatrical run. As of writing, there is no confirmed streaming release date for Napoleon.
It usually takes a couple of weeks or a month for a film to be released on streaming platforms after it completes its theatrical run. Napoleon was released on November 22, so it might take a month from now before we can watch Napoleon on Apple TV+.
The film will be available for online streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ as it is an Apple Original film. The production is, therefore, a part of Apple’s collection. Viewers can expect the film to be released online by late December.
Although Napoleon received mixed reviews from critics, the film has been reigning at the box office this weekend. Ridley Scott’s magnum opus opened to $78.8 million at the international box office. At the domestic level, the film collected $33.1 million, coming only second to The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes.
However, Napoleon was made at a staggering budget of $200 million, so it is not close to recovering its costs at the global box office. But Apple is not concerned about the film’s financial gains as of now, as it hopes to gain more revenue after the film’s debut on the streaming platform.
Apple has already tested this strategy with Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Moon. If it works with Napoleon, they will also use the same strategy for Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.
In the best-case scenario, Napoleon will also grab the attention in the next award season, making it a win-win situation for Apple.
