Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni), better known as When They Cry, is a Japanese murder mystery soft visual novel series produced by 07th Expansion. It was picked up for an animated adaptation by Studio Deen in 2006, and the first season aired for 26 episodes. A second season, titled Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai (When They Cry II: Solutions), aired for 24 episodes in 2007.
07th Expansion, in collaboration with Kadokawa, announced recently that the When They Cry franchise is getting a new anime project. A trailer for the same has been released.
A website for the anime project went live alongside the announcement, which you can check out over here. The release date or cast for the anime has not yet been released. However, Akio Watanabe has been confirmed for the Character Designer and Passione for Project Animation. The anime project will be produced by Infinite.
Ryukishi07 and 07th Expansion released Higurashi: When They Cry Hou for PC in Japan in 2014 as a “thank you” to series fans for their dedication.

Keiichi Maebara has just moved to the quiet little village of Hinamizawa in the summer of 1983 and quickly becomes inseparable friends with schoolmates Rena Ryuuguu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude. However, darkness lurks underneath the seemingly idyllic life they lead.
