Legendary Studios’ Godzilla vs. Kong is going to smash its way into our homes with release dates disclosed for 4K, Blu-ray, and digital platforms. Various special features have also been teased.
For people who missed out watching GvK on the big screen or those who want to watch it again in the comfort of their homes, this is good news.
The movie also left HBO Max streaming service recently, after its one month debut on the platform. The official news with the formal art for the upcoming releases was exclusively posted on the Toho Kingdom Twitter account:
The movie will be available digitally on May 21. The prints for DVDs and Blu-rays will join the stores a little later, on June 15. The 4K UHD and Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD Special Edition will consist of some special features (listed at the end).
The special features will be available from select digital retailers on May 21. Dolby Vision HDR will especially be featured for the 4K Ultra Blu-ray disc.
The features will delve deeper into the monster brawler fights between Kong and Godzilla. The action sequences will display the zoomed-out image of the giant Titans for impactful viewing.
Moreover, the featured commentary by director Adam Wingard will likely provide insights into the making of the film and more. Wingard had previously stated that there was enough footage to increase the duration of the movie to a whopping five hours.
The latest addition to the Monsterverse, Godzilla vs. Kong is said to be the highest-grossing movie to be released in the pandemic era. It has accumulated over 400 million dollars till now.
In the film, humans lure Kong into Hollow Earth to retrieve a power source for a weapon. The weapon is intended to stop Godzilla’s mysterious rampages.
Kong clashes with Godzilla multiple times, but towards the end, we can see them unite against a common foe, the Mechagodzilla.
The movie has been written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein. It stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Julian Dennison.
The film received an impressive score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and 59% on Metacritic. According to critics and audience alike, it was laced with a good story buildup, and the climax battle between the monsters was eye-catching.
