The day is finally here. We’ll get to know the story behind the Conjunction of the Spheres, the event that shaped the world of The Witcher. The Witcher: Blood Origin, the much-awaited sequel to the Netflix fan-favorite, is here.
The popular Netflix series focuses on a monster hunter named Geralt of Rivia who gets involved in trouble involving the princess of Cintra, Ciri. The series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novel series of the same name.
After The Witcher gained its massive fan following, Netflix came up with a prequel series, which is set centuries before the events of The Witcher. The Witcher: Blood Origin is a limited series that tells the story behind the Conjunction of the Spheres. This event lays down the foundation of the universe of The Witcher. It explains how the first monsters came into existence and how the first Witchers were created.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher, as per the mysterious Storyteller who narrates the events in the show. It was when the multiversal event of the Conjunction of the Spheres was taking place, marked by radical changes and chaos in the Continent.
The story of the event is narrated by a mysterious Storyteller in the prequel, who is apparently beyond the boundaries of space and time. His main motive is to ensure that the story is not lost over time.
As the prequel is releasing just months before The Witcher Season 3, it is designed to complement the upcoming season of the main series. For instance, the Storyteller tells Jaskier about the secrets of the Seven so that he can tell Geralt and Ciri about it in the main series.
The multiversal event of the Conjunction of the Spheres resulted in the breaking of boundaries between the several universes. It led to the monsters being transported to the Continent from their own world, posing a threat to mankind.
The elves were also brought into the Continent because of the event and ended up being hated and persecuted by humans. This is when the first Witchers came into existence to deal with the chaos in the Continent.
The Netflix series slightly shifts from Sapkowski’s original timeline from the books in this regard. In the original books, the Witchers came into existence nearly a thousand years after the Conjunction of the Spheres. The series, in contrast, will see the birth of the Witchers immediately after the multiversal event.
Blood Origin also hints at the mystical bloodline of Elder Blood, the origin of which dates back to the Conjunction of the Spheres. The bloodline has now resurfaced in Princess Ciri. The bloodline traces back to Fjall and Eile and has the influence of the creature of Chaos.
The bloodline has the power to create more Witchers due to its unusual magical powers. The Witcher Season 2 hinted that the Elder Blood was the main reason behind the Conjunction of the Spheres, but Blood Origin is all set to change that narrative.
All in all, we’re about to learn some interesting new details about the world of The Witcher before jumping into The Witcher Season 3!
