How to get the pommel: To get the Forbidden Grip of the Ages, you need to stand at the top of the Muspelheim Realm Tower in the Lake of Nine and look at your surroundings in this particular order: look straight, look left, look straight, look right, look left, look straight, look down, look right, look left, and finally look straight again.  

If done correctly, the pommel will appear before you. 

3. Blightbringer

Next up is Blightbringer, the best defensive pommel in the game, making it the best for passive players. As I’ve just mentioned, if a heavy build based on defense is what you’re into, then this is the one to go with.  

The pommel allows you to apply a curse to every enemy that you successfully land a hit on – this lets you deal additional damage to them. Along with that, its passive deals extra damage to the bosses, letting you cut through their health bars with relative ease.

How to get this pommel: You can obtain this pommel fairly easily through a chest in Niflheim – it requires you to spend 7500 mist echoes to get it, so until and unless you really need it, you might want to save the echoes for later. 

2. Surtr’s Grip of Flame

This pommel is the one to get if you’re to build an all-out offensive powerhouse out of Kratos. Its ability, Wrath of Flame, grants Kratos an immense boost in strength, restores a small amount of health, and sends out a wave of energy after every normal attack.  

The best part? This ability stacks with the blessing of Frost (a powerful skill) and activates after any successful hit, making it a highly effective pommel for taking out enemies and bosses.

How to get this pommel: You can craft this pommel from Brok and Sindri’s Shops once you find all four Muspelheim Cipher Pieces. 

1. Mistbourne

The Mistbourne is by far the best axe pommel in God of War. Considering that God of War’s battles are basically a test of endurance, this pommel’s perk offers health regeneration for every successful hit and extra runic damage to Kratos, making it more viable than any other pommel in the game. 

Starting stats: 

How to get this pommel: You can obtain the Mistbourne after closing all three Realm Tears in Niflheim, which is a favour (side-quest) that you can pick up from Sindri. After you close all three tears, another will open in their place. Once you kill all the enemies in there (easier said than done), yet another tear will open, within which lies your pommel.
