Kingdom is an anime known for its great and realistic war strategies. We have always been in awe of the thought that Hara puts into the development of the story.
Season 4 ended on October 1, 2022, with its last episode. The season was cut short in between the Koku You arc and we are all pretty interested to know what will happen in Season 5.
However, Season 5 is set to release in January 2024, which is pretty far in the future, hence let’s try and get some information regarding the storyline.
Qin has started a campaign on Koku You hills which is an important area for both Zhao and Qin. Qin sent out the Kan Ki army while Zhao sent Keisha. After multiple strategic battles, Zhao ended up in defeat.
What is the Koku You Campaign?
Koku You hills are a strategic area for both Qin and Zhao kingdoms. Qin finished the Ai rebellion and started the campaign to conquer the region. Due to the lack of cities in the area, success depends on conquering the 5 hills.
They sent out the Kan Ki army as the main force aided by Shin and Hi Shin Units.
To retaliate, Zhao sent out Keisha, the man who is known to be closest to the Three Great heavens, and the Keisha army.
The battle is divided into 4 days through which the two armies employed multiple tactics and strategies against each other. We also get to know the tragedy of Rigan.
What will happen in Season 5?
Kingdom Season 5 will focus on the Koku You Campaign storyline. This season will include new characters and we will get to see the battle between Qin and Zhao armies.
1. Major Plot Developments
It is already established that conquering Koku You would not be an easy job as it does not have any cities.
Instead, it is a hilly area and success can only be obtained by conquering the five hills.
Conquering the region requires a lot of planning and on the first day, we see that Kan Ki sends the Rai Do clan and Hi Shin Unit to the right tom to the defensive line allowing them to take over.
However, this plan went into smoke after Zhao launched a counterattack using Ba Tei’s army. Kyou Kai also goes to warn the people as they are unaware of the battle going on.
She finds herself in the enemy zone and tries to assassinate Ryuu Tou but fails the mission. Kan Ki also obtains 20,000 soldiers from the Zenou clan.
We see Ki Sui appear to boost the morale and he slays Kaku’un. Kan Ki also decides that the way to win is by giving up central hill which shocks everyone.
We further get to see the absolutely horrifying nature of Kan Ki which puts him at odds with Shin. Kan Ki decides to burn down the villages as a gift to Kisui.
As Kisui’s troops discover this “gift” they are utterly horrified and get sick to their stomachs. Shin is absolutely against this violence and this puts him at odds with Kan Ki.
The Qin troops abandoned the central hill and head towards Rigan. After this, Ki Sui began to worry about Rigan city which led him to abandon the hill and return.
Qin’s army was able to recapture the hill and they claimed victory in just 5 days.
2. End Arc Outcome
- In just five days, the armies of Qin took the hills of Koku You.
- Kei Sha was killed by Shin.
- Ryuu Tou was killed as well in a duel against Kyou Kai.
- There were massive civilian causalities.
- Ki Sui and his talent became widely known.
Themes of The Arc
Koku You Campaign arc shows the brutality of the war. Kan Ki burns the civilians and uses their corpses as a bridge, this is a pretty messed up thing to witness.
We see that Shin’s morality and integrity are once again witnessed when he sees the innocent civilians burnt by Kan Ki.
We see the kind of man Kan Ki truly is and the lengths he is ready to go to win battles. He serves as a contrast to Kan Ki.
