Many shows have exemplified a combination of workplace comedy and dark humor in the past, like The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, etc.
What separates Abbott Elementary from the rest is that it focuses on an elementary school rather than a quintessential corporate workplace.
We often take the job of a teacher for granted.
This sitcom shows the struggles in the life of an elementary school teacher using hilarious anecdotes. It is funny despite being dark and doesn’t become too pedagogical in the process. That’s what makes Abbott Elementary special.
Season 2, Episode 11 Synopsis/Speculation
Episode 10 is all about opening up about one’s vulnerabilities. We see shades of our favorite characters that we have never seen before.
The year has been challenging for Janine. She broke up with the only person she has ever dated earlier this year and now she is single. In this episode, she tries to embrace her single status by going to a hookah bar with Erica.
Gregory and Janine will finally get together in the New Year episode. The creators were waiting for this exact sequence of events to finally bring them together. In episode 10, Janine and Gregory share a somewhat awkward sexual tension which almost makes them kiss.
The next episode is called ‘Read-a-thon’ and no prizes for guessing who will win it!
Although we have very little information on the episode, we can guess that Janine and Gregory will be the finalists if a Readathon takes place. Will a cut-throat competition finally bring the love birds together?
Ava will surely try her best to jeopardize everything because Readathons are ‘boring’, aren’t they? Moreover, Ava has been openly flirting with Gregory since day 1. She will try to create friction between Janine and Gregory if she feels insecure.
Gregory is the perfect match for Janine, and they need to realize this as soon as possible. The more they avoid facing this reality, the more they are going to suffer.
Will the creators gift us with the moment that we have all been waiting for after New Year?
Also, Jacob, Melissa, and Barbara have some intense conversations today about Jacob’s dark past. Jacob confesses that he doesn’t like Christmas because of the horrible memories attached to the occasion. It somewhat reminds me of Chandler and his hatred for Thanksgiving.
The next few episodes will cause a paradigm shift in the dynamics of these three characters, especially between Barbara and Jacob. Barbara and Melissa have always looked at Jacob as someone unclassy. It may be time for this perception to change.
Stay tuned for the next episode to air just after the New Year.

Abbott Elementary Season 2, Episode 10 Recap
This week Erica takes Janine to a hookah club to slack off a little and celebrate Christmas eve. They bump into their co-workers and boss in the club. This makes Janine very uncomfortable.
Gregory tries to initiate a conversation with Janine, but it ends in awkwardness. Eventually, he asks her to go dance with him.
Elsewhere, Melissa and Barbara organize an annual holiday party. Melissa doesn’t want Jacob to be invited, but Barbara calls him over. Initially, Melissa is really frustrated, but things take a turn once Jacob opens up about his dark past.
When Melissa and Barbara are out of the room, Mr. Johnson questions Jacob about his lack of Christmas spirit. Jacob accepts that he is cranky because he doesn’t have a lot of good Christmas memories. Mr. Johnson encourages him to make new happy ones and grow out of his past.
Meanwhile, Janine and Gregory come ever so close to each other and almost kiss. Just then, Gregory gets a call from Amber and has to go. Alone on the street, Janine runs into Maurice and goes off to party with her and her boyfriend.
